Graffiti art is flourishing in Schwerin: New mural at Club Zenit!
The creative potential of graffiti artists will be promoted in a special event in Schwerin this week. As part of a community campaign, graffiti enthusiasts are designing the outside walls of an old industrial building in collaboration with Club Zenit. The event not only aims to support creativity, but also sends a strong message against illegal graffiti. There are more than ten enthusiastic participants from Schwerin and Wismar.
Martin Lambrecht, the chairman of the organizing association, emphasizes the importance of more legal graffiti areas in the region. The event is part of a workshop that teaches aspiring graffiti artists important techniques. Topics such as basic shapes, letters and choosing the right tracking attachment are covered - such as the skinny attachment for thin lines and the fat cap for wide areas.
Support from the city
The city of Schwerin is also active. Annika Ferdinando, a city representative, closely monitors the workshops and supports the youth work with financial resources for materials such as paints. As part of this creative process, stencils are also made to integrate the silhouette of Schwerin Cathedral and the television tower into the mural.
The mural will officially open on Sunday, August 17th. A young artist known under the pseudonym “Clyk” discovered his passion for graffiti through a workshop run by the association. He is currently working on an impressive three meter wide lettering. “Clyk” emphasizes that he only paints in legal places, which is particularly important to him. His art should not only be aesthetic, but also contribute to the acceptance of graffiti.
Creativity in focus
Dominique Köser, also a member of the association, describes the creative process from the idea to the completion of the mural. It becomes clear that not only art is created here, but also a feeling of community and togetherness is fostered. Lambrecht expresses the desire for more legal space in the old town of Schwerin in order to further expand the artistic diversity in the city.
For graffiti fans and art lovers in Schwerin and the surrounding area, this is a unique opportunity to experience the creative scene up close. With the aim of informing the public about the possibilities and beauty of legal graffiti, the association succeeds in shedding a positive light on this often misunderstood art form.
The event will provide a new perspective on graffiti not only to participants but also to the general public. So when the creative spark is ignited in Schwerin, you can be sure: interest in art and community is flourishing here.
