Pritzwalk celebrates the reopening of Havelberger Straße after renovation!
Havelberger Straße in Pritzwalk shines in new splendor. After more than a year of construction, the road has now officially been reopened to traffic. The reopening was duly celebrated at a small celebration on Friday, to which the city administration, construction companies, municipal utilities, residents and city councilors were invited. This renovation is one of the city's largest construction projects in recent years and includes many important innovations to accommodate residents and inner-city traffic. Maz Online reports on the official opening of the road, the last construction phase, which covers 270 meters between the Reepergang and the level crossing, began on April 22, 2024.
This renovation was carried out in four phases, with some complete closures. Mayor Ronald Thiel expressed his thanks to the patience of the residents and the reliability of the companies involved. It should be emphasized that during the asphalting work, which took place two weeks before the official release, a special surface was used that reduces heat absorption.
Generous facilities and sustainability aspects
The project's facilities leave nothing to be desired. 260 meters of concrete pipes were laid for rain drainage and 46 new house connections were installed. In addition, a crossing aid at Reepergang height ensures greater safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The greenery is also not neglected: 24 newly planted hawthorns and 1,200 floribunda roses are intended to enhance the surrounding area. Northern Courier adds that the renewal of the sidewalks and extensive greening are also part of the project.
The renovation also included replacing all supply lines. Drinking water and wastewater pipes were renewed by the water and wastewater association, while the Pritzwalk public utility company was responsible for the gas and electricity pipes. At a cost of around two million euros, this project is financed from the city budget and additional burden compensation.
But Havelberger Straße had a long history. Residents have suffered from traffic noise for years, and an application for a speed limit was rejected back in 2010. It was only in 2015 that a temporary speed limit of 30 km/h could be enforced for trucks. The first planning for the renovation began in 2017, followed by the draft planning in 2020. During the preparation phase, the Havelberger Straße/Parkstraße intersection was also renovated to improve rain drainage.
A step into the future
Havelberger Straße is now not only technically state-of-the-art, but also barrier-free and green. Such projects are in line with the goals of initiatives such as BlueGreenStreets, which deal with the development of urban greenery and the improvement of urban infrastructure. This future-oriented planning shows how street spaces can be designed as multi-talents in urban districts. The progress of the Pritzwalker renovation is a sign of the positive change in sustainable urban planning.
