Vacation on Usedom: Frustration due to parking tickets and lack of bread!

During her vacation on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom, vacationer Sylvia Michalski from Hamburg experienced a truly frustrating stay that was peppered with a series of unpleasant events. But it's not just the personal experience that counts: reports from many travelers suggest that Usedom may have lost some of its former glory.

During her stay in Koserow, Michalski realized that her expectations for the vacation were not met. According to Nordkurier, she had several unfortunate experiences. One of the first significant mishaps: After a boat trip, she found a parking ticket on her car. As it turned out, she had gotten a parking ticket from the wrong machine, which could be used for both parking tickets and tourist tax tickets. So she had to pay an additional 20 euros, which caused her first frustration.

Another unpleasant surprise

But that wasn't everything. When her husband stopped to let her get out of the car while looking for a parking space, he promptly received a 75 euro parking ticket through the open window. “I was simply perplexed,” said Michalski, describing her feelings. These experiences led her to wish she had had a more relaxing time.

But the misery would not let up: another day the family visited the famous Holländermühle in Benz, where a sign reminded people of the freshly baked bread and cakes every day. However, Michalski was disappointed when the saleswoman did not want to sell bread despite the announcement because she felt “like she was in a bakery”. Another setback for the holidaymaker.

Parking requirements abroad

Given Sylvia's experiences, we also want to highlight the situation that may affect many islanders and travelers. There are reports of parking demands that also affect German drivers due to violations in Croatia. Depending on the offense, these can cost up to 500 euros and are enforceable in Germany, as ADAC informs. Holidaymakers should therefore pay particular attention to the signs when parking.

Do you want to avoid these additional costs? Then it is advisable to make sure that you draw parking tickets correctly and follow the regulations. Educate yourself with information about paid parking zones that are written down in Croatia along with the confusing regulations.

Rights of holidaymakers

This makes it all the more important that holidaymakers know their rights. Since July 1, 2018, travel law has changed, which is important for travelers: The deadline for asserting claims for defects has been extended to two years, as ERGO reports. This gives holidaymakers more time to formulate their requirements after their return.

Overall, it is time to embark on the journey not only as a visitor to the beautiful landscape, but also as an informed traveler. Because unpleasant surprises are not something we want for our well-deserved vacation! In any case, based on her experiences, Sylvia Michalski is less inclined to visit Usedom again. Perhaps the island should make adjustments to avoid such frustrations so that its guests can fully enjoy their time by the sea.
