Traveling theater in Meyenburg enchants despite technical breakdown!
A performance by the traveling theater “Ton und Kirschen” recently took place in the picturesque park of Meyenburg Castle. Despite technical difficulties that accompanied the performance that day, the audience was able to immerse themselves in the magical world of fairy tales. The play "Once Upon a Time and Wasn't..." was supposed to be performed, but an unexpected breakdown caused the truck's loading ramp to fail, meaning the props and equipment could not be unloaded. However, the coordinator Kerstin Mudrak, who then provided information, kept the guests entertained and improvised successfully, so that the audience applauded enthusiastically despite the adverse circumstances. According to Nordkurier, the actors managed to win the hearts of the audience with a mix of music, dance and fairy tales.
The day before, an impressive 204 tickets were sold in Lenzen - a record for the troupe. The visitors took the glitch in stride and were enchanted by some improvised performances for around 20 minutes. Under the motto “Telling fairy tales,” stories such as “The Turnip” and “The Sterntaler” became imaginative highlights of the performance. A particular highlight was the wordless improvisation of “Rapunzel,” which inevitably made the audience smile.
A fascinating concept
The idea behind “Ton und Kirschen” is to bring the magic and profound warnings of fairy tales to life through drama, music, dance as well as puppetry and mask play. This form of storytelling not only brings nostalgia to the stage, but also gives the audience space for their own ideas. The origins of most fairy tales date back many millennia; Stories rich in fantasy, violence and wonder are passed down from generation to generation. As described in Theater am Rand, these fairy tales are deeply connected to childhood and personal memories.
The ensemble, founded in 1992 by Margarete Biereye and David Johnston, has so far staged 26 productions and has made a name for itself not only in Germany but also internationally. The artistic direction is committed to the legacy of fairy tales, and this commitment is particularly evident in the stylistic diversity and careful design of the performances. According to [Ufafabrik](https://ufafabrik.de/ Veranstaltung/37797/ton-und-kirschen-wandertheater), the participants are from different countries and bring rich cultural perspectives to the productions.
A preview of upcoming performances
The traveling theater will be traveling to several locations in Brandenburg in August. Another highlight is the “Cartography” event, which will take place on August 28th. This will explore the origins of fairy tales and the audience will have the opportunity to learn more about the special aspects of these stories. Anyone interested in further programming can view the current schedule on the theater's website and secure a place for one of the next performances.
A big thank you also goes to the audience, who showed understanding despite the theater team's lack of skill and were even willing to contribute a few coins for the spontaneous performance. In times of such challenges, the true value of art and the connection between people becomes apparent.
