Students from Meißen save the city forest and collect 1 cubic meter of garbage!
in Brandenburg an der Havel has spent a group of five committed students from the Franziskaneum Gymnasium in the city forest. Helene Meißner, Luise Scharf, Sophie Fritsche, Julia Fiedler and Leopold Hoffman from grade 8 before the summer holidays that start in Saxony at the beginning of July, decided on a sustainable action.
A real heart of the initiative was cleaning up in the Bean countries. Here the young people collected around a cubic meter of garbage that has been there for decades. A really remarkable performance! In order to further promote environmental awareness, signs have been drawn up that indicate the PEFC-Vertifikat of the city forest. This certification stands for environmentally friendly management that integrates economic, ecological and social aspects.
nesting boxes and commitment
But with all the work, the fun was not neglected. In addition to the nature conservation activities, the students also had free time. So they went on trips to downtown Brandenburg and explored the Havel waters by bike. A lot was bathed in the warm days!
As part of the project, the students also brought 20 nesting boxes with them, which they hung in the forest and were supported by urban forest workers. Her commitment not only showed itself in manual work, but also in a financial donation: there are 200 euros that are invested in a sustainable project of the municipal forestry company. For this, the forestry company would like to thank the students as well as their supervisors, Ms. Sarah Krauspenhaar and Mr. Gunter Max Wendt.
sustainability by PEFC
The PEFC-Tertifikat is not just a pretty sign in the forest. It certifies that the wood and wood products come from sustainably managed forests. With around 7.3 million hectares of forest space in Germany, which are PEFC certified, this is the largest forest certification system in Germany. A real "forest TÜV" that ensures that ecological, economic and social aspects are taken into account in forest management. PEFC was founded in Germany in 1999 and developed strict standards and procedures for certification.
at a time when climate protection is becoming increasingly important, the PEFC is also actively committed to climate -adapted forest management. Under certain conditions, this funding program can be participated, which further underlines the importance and influence of sustainable forestry.
The use of the young people in the city forest of Brandenburg impressively shows how important it is to take responsibility for the environment at a young age. It is hoped that this energy and commitment also inspire others to work for a more sustainable future.
