Cottbus celebrates the 5th Baltic Sea Sports Games: Three days full of action!
The city of Cottbus celebrated a top-class sporting festival last weekend, from June 13th to 15th, 2025. The 5. Baltic Sea Sports Games took place in a celebratory setting in the Willmersdorf district of Cottbus and attracted around 3,500 athletes and over 10,000 visitors. The event was held at two central locations, the APEX sports park and the Möbel-Höffner parking lot, which created the best conditions for all participants.
The sports games were aimed at families and sports enthusiasts of all ages and offered a varied program that ranged from darts tournaments to half marathons and beach tennis tournaments. In tropical heat, the opening started with a swim cap run and the Sparkasse half marathon, which attracted 397 runners. On Saturday, the little athletes were able to show what they were made of at the Stadtwerke Cottbus Bambini soccer tournament, while bouncy castles and a climbing mountain awaited young visitors in the AOK family corner.
Sports and entertainment for young and old
The stage program offered the audience a variety of entertainment options: performances of children's musicals, Varieté Fantastique, as well as dance performances and magic shows provided additional variety. That too supporting program was very well received, and the over 500 children who took part in the school and bambini run were the heart of the event. In the evening, the boxing night became a real attraction, with the mayor of Cottbus, Mr. Schick, even putting together a team that won.
On Sunday there were also exciting youth soccer games and the BOMMTOWN OSTSEE Triathlon on the program. “The next Baltic Sea sports games are already planned for June 12th to 14th, 2026!”, said the city sports association managing director Sebastian Grothe positively about the smooth processes and the high level of popularity of the events.
A strong community commitment
Project manager Rocco Pietsch warmly thanked the over 300 helpers, clubs, sponsors and partners who contributed to the success of the games. The event was supported by regional partners and the Brandenburg-Poland Interreg program, which also enabled sporting initiatives and community development to be promoted.
