Motorsport highlight: Niedergesäß fights in the home race at the Lausitzring!
What is happening in motorsport in Brandenburg? August 15, 2025 will be dedicated to the Truck Trials, and the home game at the Lausitzring will ensure an exciting atmosphere. Markus Niedergesäß, a well-known motorsport athlete from the region, is ready to take on his competitors again. The three-time European champion has something special planned for this year, even though he can only take part in his home race this season.
Niedergesäß drives an Iveco 260-30, a robust three-axle vehicle with four-wheel drive, equipped with a powerful V8 engine and around 360 hp. This truck comes with an interesting story: originally designed as a timber transporter, it features old Russian technology that gives it a distinctive touch. Markus Niedergesäß explains that Truck Trial is not just a competition, but an honorable challenge that requires a lot of skill and vehicle control.
The return to success
Niedergesäß's motorsport career has its ups and downs. In 2004, he followed in the footsteps of the European Championships for the first time together with his father Peter and won the title. After this triumphant success, the two switched to rallies and sold the Iveco. But the love for truck trials remained, and in 2023 Markus dared to return and bought the Iveco back. With his comeback in the 2024 European Championships, he immediately catapulted himself to the top and won the title.
This season, however, Niedergesäß can only compete in the home race at the Lausitzring. In addition to his involvement in motorsport, the father of an almost ten-year-old son also has to keep an eye on the business of his vehicle paint shop in Cottbus, which is why he wants to reduce the number of racing appearances. For him, the trot at the Lausitzring is above all a tricky route with the typical Brandenburg sand, which always surprises the drivers.
Trucks: More than just a means of transport
But what exactly is a truck? According to our research, trucks are motor vehicles designed primarily to transport goods. They vary in size, performance and configuration. They are commonly equipped with diesel engines, although there has also been an upswing in electric trucks in recent years, especially in Europe. What all trucks have in common is their robust equipment, often with a separate cabin area for the driver.
The term “truck” is used in American English, while in Britain the word “lorry” is common. Truck types range from light to heavy vehicles and are more than just transportation - they are often the backbone of logistics and commerce.
Although Niedergesäß is not competing for the title this season, he is still aiming for a win in his home race. A good day at Truck Trial is not just a personal triumph, it is also a celebration of community and motorsports. The Lausitzring becomes the scene of exciting competitions, while Niedergesäß tries to stand up to its country specialties in the competition.
Be there when the trucks roll around the Lausitzring and every motorsport fan's heart beats a little faster!
