Train chaos in Blankenfelde: New diversions from September!
In Blankenfelde, part of the Teltow-Fläming district, a lot is happening in the area of rail transport. The new combined platform for both the S-Bahn and the regional train is scheduled to officially go into operation on September 22nd. Regional trains are currently running on the new outer platform, but there are traffic restrictions due to ongoing construction work. The new platform is temporarily only usable to a limited extent, which could cause dissatisfaction among commuters. But there is also positive news: Pedestrians and cyclists can now walk under the tracks, which significantly shortens their journey and eliminates the detour through the parking garage, reports maz-online.de.
A new construction status was achieved at the station as early as March 29, 2025. The first passengers were able to use the newly equipped platform 4, which is also part of the large-scale infrastructure project for the Dresden Railway. A milestone that not only increases comfort, but also noticeably shortens the travel time between Berlin and Dresden. When the project is completed in 2029, the travel time should only be around 80 minutes. A new external track for regional traffic will now stop at the new external platform, but the island platform, which opened before 2023, will remain temporarily out of service to allow for further construction work, such as berlin-dresden.de reported.
Changes in regional transport
In view of the upcoming construction work, new closures and diversions in regional traffic are expected until the timetable change in December. Six train lines in the south of Berlin will initially only operate to a limited extent. The RE8 Süd in particular is rerouted between Berlin-Lichtenberg and Blankenfelde and does not stop at popular stations such as Berlin Central Station and Potsdamer Platz. This means that passengers heading to the city center would be better off using the S2 to reach their destinations. The RB24, on the other hand, will only run during the night between midnight and 4 a.m., and replacement buses will also be used between Waßmannsdorf and Zossen - but without a stop in Dahlewitz, explains Deutsche Bahn on its website website.
Finally, there will be a further cut in operations from October 24th to December 13th, as no regional or long-distance trains will stop at the Berlin Südkreuz and Berlin Potsdamer Platz stations during this time. Anyone who is dependent on the train during this time should be well informed and, if necessary, consider alternative travel options in order to avoid the inconvenience of the construction times.
The current developments in rail traffic around Blankenfelde show that, despite the inconvenience, the planned improvements will increase the quality of travel in the long term. Commuters should pay particular attention to the timetable changes in the coming months.
