Car theft in Teltow: 75,000 euros in damage – police are searching!
The theft of a high-quality VW car was reported on Monday afternoon and investigations are already underway. Unknown perpetrators stole the vehicle, which was parked in public traffic, and the estimated material damage is a whopping 75,000 euros. The police have filed a report of particularly serious theft and have launched a search for the stolen car. The crime occurred between October 19, 2025 at 12:30 a.m. and October 27, 2025 at 3:00 p.m., as reported by News.de.
The increasing numbers of car thefts in Germany are alarming. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, a total of 15,924 vehicles were permanently stolen in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of 9 percent compared to the previous year. Models from foreign manufacturers such as Toyota, Hyundai and Kia, which are particularly popular with thieves, are particularly affected. In addition, the number of stolen trucks also jumped by 48.4 percent to 1,009, which is primarily due to a series of thefts of smaller trucks. The BKA reports that Eastern Europe is increasingly coming into focus as an important target region for the international movement of vehicles.
Perpetrator groups and protective measures
The perpetrator groups are often well connected and have special knowledge of theft technology, especially in vehicles with “keyless go” systems. These systems are tricked using radio link extenders, which makes theft much easier. There are helpful tips for vehicle owners: Keys should not be placed directly on the apartment door and should ideally be stored in aluminum cases or special boxes to avoid theft.
Close cooperation between the police and other authorities and vehicle manufacturers is crucial to counteract this development. The numbers speak for themselves: German search hits on foreign vehicles increased significantly, which is partly due to increased border controls against smuggling crimes.
The prevailing weather conditions currently do not appear to be having an impact on crime. Heavy rain is expected in several regions, including Vancouver, which could affect mobility and visibility in public spaces. A 90 percent chance of precipitation is forecast for October 28 with temperatures between 54°F and 43°F, according to The Weather.
Given these circumstances, it is clear that both the police and citizens are required to be vigilant and take the best possible precautions against vehicle theft. So stay alert and secure your vehicle as best as possible!
