Caught in the act: Dispute prevents vending machine cracking in Altentreptow!
On the night of Sunday, August 11, 2025, a suspected trio of robbers caused a stir in Altentreptow. Residents became aware of loud bickering and the metallic noise of a flex machine. Their alarming noises prompted the police to send three patrol cars from Malchin and Neubrandenburg to the station forecourt, as uckermarkkurier.de reports.
On site, the officers came across two warm motorcycles, three helmets and a damaged ticket machine that the men apparently wanted to open. The suspicion was confirmed when a 50-year-old man was arrested with a Flex at the end of the platform. In addition, a 41-year-old suspect was also cautioned because of his unusual behavior and taken to a patrol car. Another man, 42 years old, sought safety in the bushes, where he was finally discovered. He explained that he was hiding there out of fear of the police because he was driving a motorcycle without a license.
The investigation is ongoing
The three men, all known to the police several times, are now facing investigations for theft with weapons and damage to property. Although no stolen goods were obtained, the damage to the machine is estimated at around 1,000 euros. The police are continuing to investigate to clarify further details, as news.de reports.
Such incidents are not uncommon. After the corona pandemic, there has been an increase in residential burglaries in Germany, with a whopping 119,000 cases in 2023. The city of Mülheim an der Ruhr has the highest burglary rate with 283 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Although the numbers have fallen by more than 50% since 2015, the topic of burglary protection remains very relevant for many Germans, as the data from statista.com makes clear.
This kejocote event in Altentreptow also sheds light on the nationwide trend in crime and shows that concerns about break-ins and bicycle thefts are still the order of the day. Citizens' sense of security should not be pushed into the background by statistics; because even an attempted theft can become a significantly frightening experience.
