Mysterious film evening at the MKC: sad snails and lively stories
Tonight at the Multicultural Center (MKC) in Templin promised surprises - and the guests were not disappointed. A very special film evening took place under the direction of Kathrin Bohm-Berg, the managing director of the MKC. The touching animated film “Memoirs of a Snail” by Australian director Adam Elliot was shown. Around 40 film enthusiasts attended the event and were immersed in the moving story of Gracy, an Australian woman interested in snails.
The film impresses not only with its loving stop-motion technique, which is based on clay figures, but also with its profound plot. Gracy and her twin brother Gilbert grow up under difficult conditions; their mother dies in childbirth and their father abandons them a few years later. The siblings are placed in different foster homes and wonder whether they will ever see each other again. The story is interspersed with clever sayings and wisdom that reflect the meaning of life and the challenges of childhood.
An evening full of discussions
After the film, the audience came together to discuss the content of the film. It quickly became apparent that the themes of loss, hope and human connection stirred deep emotions. The atmosphere was more relaxed than one would expect, and the discussions made it clear that the MKC, with its Secret Film Club, has a knack for choosing films that not only entertain but also provoke thought.
The Secret Film Club has been in existence for three years now and organizes monthly film evenings, with the next film - it has been announced - being funnier and “surprisingly beautiful”. For many participants, this was not just an evening to watch a film, but also an opportunity to gain new perspectives and discover similarities.
The initiators of the club have set themselves the goal of presenting a diverse range of films that continually surprise guests. “We want people to go home with a smile,” said Bohm-Berg when announcing the next event.
For anyone who enjoys good entertainment and in-depth discussions, MKC could be the right place to continue discovering the stories that life writes.
