Close to home: Andrea Randweg returns to Prenzlau after 37 years
A piece of home that is never lost: Andrea Randweg, a native of Prenzlau, was recently the center of attention at the city festival in Prenzlau when she brought the memories of back then into the present with her family and a beaming smile. 37 years ago she had to move with her parents from the Uckermark to near Stuttgart at their request and as a result of an application to leave the country. But despite the long years in Baden-Württemberg, the Uckermark remains a very important part of Andrea's life.
Today she lives with her husband Thorsten and their daughter Charlyn in the beautiful southwest German region. Thorsten Randweg, who was enthusiastic about the Sandman mascot, really wanted to take a souvenir photo. “I don’t want to go anywhere else,” he enthused about the people’s good mood and the beauty of the Unteruckersee, which they regularly visit on their vacation, especially at Camp Solaris.
A special invitation and reunion with old friends
The town festival was special for Andrea because she was invited to a class reunion. After 40 years, she met her former classmates from the Pestalozzi School again. Such moments strengthen the bond to home and bring memories of one's own roots to life. Andrea emphasizes it emphatically: Although she has lived far away for many years, the Uckermark is still deeply rooted in her heart.
With the “Heimatland Uckermark” a valuable platform has also been formed that serves family research and is continually being expanded. On this website, the interested public can document from an extensive archive, which not only includes lists of people, but also points out many important aspects of life in the Uckermark. The archive is a real treasure for anyone who wants to search for their ancestors in the region. Heimatland Uckermark regularly reports on new developments, including an online accessible personal database that is being tested.
Family history in tune with the times
For those who would like to delve deeper into family research, the Uckermark local family book offers valuable insights into the genealogical past. Nuclear families, their connections and the associated primary sources such as church records are listed here. The local family book is not only of interest to amateur genealogists, but also plays an important role in preserving the history of the region. Familienforschung Uckermark has created a simple overview that shows which OFB are already accessible online and which are still being processed.
The stories and memories of the people from the Uckermark are what make this region so special. Andrea Randweg is a living example of how home always plays a central role in the lives of its former residents, despite physical distance. And perhaps that is exactly the strongest bond that surrounds the Uckermark with its charisma and charm - a feeling that you can find wherever your own origins have taken root.
