Heart health in focus: New cardio CT revolutionizes diagnostics in Uckermark!

There is reason to be happy at the Asklepios Klinikum Uckermark in Schwedt: The Institute for Imaging Diagnostics has raised its technical capabilities to a new level. With a newly commissioned 64-slice computed tomography (CT) system, heart and vascular diseases can now be examined with a level of detail that is superior to previous standards. This state-of-the-art examination called “cardio-CT” combines the expertise of radiologists and cardiologists and is now available.

Jens Hartmann, chief physician at the institute, is pleased about the innovations: “Thanks to the faster acquisition and higher resolution of the images, we can now work more efficiently and precisely.” The switch to the new 64-row device has not only increased the speed of examinations, but also reduced radiation exposure. This is particularly crucial for emergency diagnostics, for example in suspected strokes or acute abdominal pain, where every second counts.

Cardio-CT opens up new perspectives

Cardiac CT offers a non-invasive option for a detailed assessment of coronary arteries and other cardiac structures. Marcin Jaworski, head of cardiology, emphasizes how important this technology is for the early detection and diagnosis of heart diseases. “We are expanding our diagnostic spectrum to include an extremely precise method,” says Jaworski. The high-resolution slice images of the new device are a valuable tool for the precise localization of strictures and calcifications, which enables early interventions.

The advances in imaging diagnostics should not be underestimated. These methods have become the standard in cardiac diagnostics, alongside classic cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). “We can use this to efficiently detect heart problems and better assess the severity of known diseases,” explains the department.

Technological highlights

The integration of state-of-the-art devices ensures that even complex cardiac structures can be recorded precisely. Among other things, 3D techniques in ultrasound and CT/MRI are used to create three-dimensional images in real time. The clinic offers a wide range of established procedures including:

  • Echokardiographie mit 4D-Sonographiegeräten
  • MRT mit 1,5 und 3,0 Tesla Kernspintomographen
  • Kardio-CT mit 64-Zeilen- und 256-Zeilen-CT

Overall, it shows that the new options not only benefit patients, but also revolutionize the work of doctors. It is a further step into the future of cardiac medicine, which is eagerly awaited at the Uckermark Clinic. More information about this can be found on Northern Courier and VHF.
