Artist opens cultural meeting point Zum alten Nussbaum” in Western Pomerania
In a picturesque part of Western Pomerania, Berlin artist Gregor Krampitz has acquired an old farm that has the potential to revitalize the region's cultural life. The over 150-year-old three-sided courtyard in Neu Kosenow, which stood empty for four years, will in future be known as “Zum alten Nussbaum”. The highlight of the farm is a majestic, old walnut tree, which is not only a feast for the eyes, but also attracts Krampitz's creative vision. He has already started renovating the farmhouse - with a craftsmanship that is based on his training.
The self-employed photo artist lived and worked in Berlin and impressively highlights the theme of transience and change in his works. He uses rotten steel sheets in combination with a special photographic process. With the purchase of the farm, Krampitz's goal is to create a place for art and culture that also serves the community. On December 6th, the farm will celebrate its first major event after its opening with a Christmas market that combines art and crafts. An exhibition of his works will also be on display, while the fire department and the local cultural association will actively support the event.
Creative spaces for artists and the community
The plans for the courtyard include extensive renovations. A large barn will be converted into an exhibition and event room where cultural events will take place on a regular basis. Furthermore, studios and workshops are planned for changing guest artists from the region and Berlin in order to promote creative ideas and exchange. A sculpture garden and a gallery café are also in the conception phase. With these measures, the project is intended to offer an open space for creative work and cultural exchange and to develop the location into a new cultural center in the region.
Krampitz's concern is in line with the "Aller.Land - shaping together. Strengthening structures" program, which was launched in 2023. This program supports committed people in structurally weak rural regions in order to shape their living environment with creative ideas. Up to 40,000 euros per region are available to develop viable concepts for innovative and community-building projects. Over 97 regions took part in the first phase, making Krampitz's project particularly relevant in this context.
The commitment to cultural and creative initiatives, such as those implemented by Krampitz with his farm, is crucial for the revitalization of rural areas. More and more people are recognizing how valuable cultural offerings are for community life. Krampitz plans to hold regular events to enliven the art scene in Western Pomerania and create a space for encounters. All of this is a step away from the anonymity of cities towards creative and networked coexistence in the countryside.
The illumination of the old walls by the light artist Dietmar Kuhrt also sheds special light on the history of the farm, which attracts both locals and visitors. The project impressively shows how individual visions can have a positive influence on local culture.
