Kunsterbunt: A festival of creativity and culture in Lychen!
In the charming area of the Uckermark, which is known for its picturesque landscapes, an exciting art and culture festival entitled “Kunsterbunt” will be held on the penultimate weekend in September. This festival goes hand in hand with a comprehensive research project at Mittweida University entitled “Autonomy and Community” (AUGE), which takes a closer look at the role of art and culture in rural areas. The project provides some interesting insights for the communities in the Eifel, the Ore Mountains and Lychen, which will certainly arouse the interest of the population. As Nordkurier reports, a special film screening will take place on September 20th at 7 p.m.: the documentary “Artists in Rural Areas” by Bernhard Sallmann. The film, which lasts about an hour and a half, is shown in the Old Cinema and presents the perspectives of local artists such as Jutta Siebert and Robert Günther.
The art and culture festival “Kunsterbunt” starts on Saturday at 2 p.m. with a special opening: Henning Storch will make music on the market square, and the sound experience will be accompanied by Joachim Hantke’s reading at 3 p.m. from his book “Lychener Stammtisch Stories” in his garden. The market square and various facts and shops in the area then become lively venues for art and creativity. The offerings include workshops such as “3 colors – lots of creativity” in the ARTelier 22 as well as weaving together in Martina Busch’s hand weaving workshop. Robert Günther will also be there and invites you to create new poetry panels.
Diversity of the program
The exciting activities continue: For example, short stories are presented in the antiquarian bookshop Lychener, and in the MehrGenerationenHaus there is a photo exhibition with a wide range of courses. For this festival, Walter Mangold is installing an innovative work of art called “Motion Detector” in the church, while painting sessions are being offered in the Café Kunstpause. The crowning conclusion of the festival is the evening program from 6 p.m. in the Old Cinema, which begins with a performance by the “We are a song” choir and continues into the film screening. Afterwards, visitors can look forward to a lively discussion with the filmmaker and the artists.
This commitment to art and culture is not only important locally. An overarching trend shows that creative initiatives are becoming increasingly important in rural areas. The “Aller.Land – shaping together. Strengthening structures.” program, which was launched in 2023, promotes such projects and values the active participation of the community. It wants to expand the possibilities for creative ideas and projects. This is particularly clear through the funding of 40,000 euros for the participating regions in Germany, which is intended to help try out innovative and community-building projects, as kulturstaatsminister.de explains.
The importance of art in rural areas
Another look at the current issue of “Land & Space” also highlights the importance of art and culture in rural regions. Various projects are discussed here that promote the interaction between agriculture, tourism and culture. The publication contains exciting contributions to initiatives and concepts that make a difference in rural areas and create connections between tradition and modern needs. In times of crisis, it becomes particularly clear how important these cultural activities are for preserving our communities and strengthening regional identity. One example is the culture and crafts center in Ferlach, which promotes collaborative learning, as can be found on oekl.at.
In summary, art and culture in rural areas are not only a pleasure, but also essential components of our social quality of life. They bring people together, promote exchange and strengthen the community. The upcoming festival in the Uckermark is a prime example of how lively this scene is and how it allows rural areas to flourish.
