Huge damage in the Uckermark: construction site trailer stolen!

A veritable theft has occurred in the tranquil Zehnebeck region in the Gramzow district: Unknown people stole a secured vehicle trailer and building materials from a construction site. This incident was reported to police on Monday, October 27th and has left those affected stunned. The amount of damage is estimated at a considerable 25,000 euros. Such large sums are not only annoying for building contractors, but also raise the question: How could the perpetrators, who found the trailer properly secured, strike so unnoticed?

The criminal police are already investigating to quickly solve the theft. Witnesses who have made suspicious observations are asked to come forward. Tips can be passed on to any police station or directly to the responsible investigators. What remains is an uneasy feeling for the construction industry, which is increasingly suffering from such attacks.

Theft on construction projects: A sad trend

The incident in Zehnebeck is not an isolated case; Theft is a pressing problem, especially in the construction industry. A current study by BauWatch shows that eight out of ten construction site managers in Germany are confronted with theft at least once a year. In addition, two thirds of those surveyed believe that construction site crime will have increased in 2023 reported the website BauWatch.

The study also shows that criminals' strategies are becoming increasingly sophisticated, with a shocking 80% of respondents reporting at least one theft per year. Small items such as tools are among the most commonly stolen items, while more expensive equipment is less likely to be stolen. What is particularly alarming is that over 43% of projects fall behind schedule due to such incidents we find out from the BauWatch study.

Security measures urgently required

Given this threat, it is essential to implement effective security measures. BauWatch recommends a multi-level security concept that includes, among other things, the use of visible security measures such as camera towers and fences, regular training for employees and investments in high-performance security systems. Because without preventative measures it will probably not be possible to protect the construction industry from further losses.

Considering the fact that the damage to the German construction industry from theft is estimated to be over 80 million euros in 2024, those responsible must rethink and plan security concepts before construction begins. So the precautions are anything but optional - they are a necessity!

In summary, the incident in Zehnebeck remains a sign of a worrying development in construction site crime. Those affected are called upon to be attentive and to pay greater attention not only to the fleet, but also to the entire security architecture of their projects. Because the construction industry now needs to turn things around and increase safety standards!
