On Tuesday, June 10th, a Swedish sailing yacht in the German Bay in Seenot. The two -person crew, consisting of a man and a woman, was on the maneuver -incapable yacht after the engine failed. This happened near the busy shipping route at Borkum-Riff, where challenging weather conditions with up to four meters of Seegang and strong west wind ruled. Finally, the customs boat "Nesserland" reported an emergency call to the German rescue center Lake in Bremen at 11:30 a.m.
The DGZRS sea rescuers who have been active since 1865 received the alarm immediately and made their way to the scene of the accident. The sea rescue cruiser Theo Fischer was able to expire at 12:30 p.m., despite the disturbed radio connection and the difficult lake. In the meantime, the crew of the "Nesserland" kept Wache at a safe distance until reinforcements arrived in the form of the cruiser.
rescue operation under difficult conditions
The Theo Fischer reached the yacht in need around 12:15 p.m. and quickly established a linen connection to tow the badly damaged sailing yacht to Borkum. Until then, the crew of the yacht had fought against the adverse conditions and was physically intact, but exhausted.
The way back to Borkum was demanding because the strongly pronounced sea of sea caused a low towing speed. At around 4 p.m., the daughter boat Ströper took over the final section of the rescue mission and brought the two sailors safely to the harbor. The two sailors are doing well according to the circumstances, and the yacht should be repaired as soon as possible to continue the planned onward journey to southern Europe.
