Iranian spy caught in Denmark: danger to Jewish life in Berlin!

The mullahs' regime in Iran has repeatedly shown itself to be a threat to democracy and security in Europe. Special alarm bells are ringing after a Dane with Afghan roots, Ali S., was arrested in Denmark on June 26th. This man is suspected of having collected information about Jewish citizens and institutions in Berlin on behalf of an Iranian secret service. According to Mena-Watch, Ali S. was entrusted with this task at the beginning of 2023 and is said to have spied out three possible targets in the capital in June 2023, indicating preparations for an attack.

The case was uncovered by tips from a friendly foreign intelligence service, allegedly the Mossad. The Federal Minister of the Interior, Alexander Dobrindt, emphasized that such activities are outrageous and that the security of Jewish living spaces has top priority. The suspect will be brought before the investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice, where further light could be shed on Iranian espionage activities. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, supported by the Federal Criminal Police Office, initiated the investigation in order to analyze the serious threats posed by Iranian secret services.

Targeted acts of terrorism and a network of secret services

The activities of the Iranian secret service are by no means new. Security authorities repeatedly warn of possible political destabilization due to Tehran's influences in Western democracies, especially in Germany and Austria. According to Die Tagespost, both the MOIS and the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) operate actively in Europe and operate an extensive network to influence and control dissidents.

The dangers do not only extend to political opposition. Jewish and pro-Israel individuals and institutions are also targeted due to Iran's anti-Israel state doctrine. Arson attacks on synagogues have already been carried out, and courts have confirmed the apparent links of Iranian authorities to these crimes. In December 2023, the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court found that Iranian secret services were building a network to carry out attacks on Jewish targets in North Rhine-Westphalia.

A responsible response is required

The Foreign Office responded to the threat and summoned the Iranian ambassador to make it clear that no threat to Jewish life in Germany would be tolerated. The President of the Central Council of Jews, Josef Schuster, called for immediate political action against the Iranian regime, which in the past has not only endangered the security of the Jewish community but also undermined the fundamental principles of freedom and democracy.

The urgency of decisive action against Iranian influence in Europe is more than obvious. The Tagesschau reports that ministers from various departments are expressing great concern about the situation. The threats that Iran poses to stability in Germany and Europe can no longer be ignored. It is time to work together more closely and to better network the security authorities internationally in order to decisively counter the threat posed by the mullahs' regime.
