ADAC warns: Mega traffic jams on the long weekend in Baden-Württemberg!

The long weekend is just around the corner and the anticipation of excursions and travel is palpable. But the ADAC warns: Anyone planning to be on the road next Friday, October 3rd, should be prepared for significant traffic disruptions. German Unity Day is a nationwide holiday and many people use the opportunity for short vacations. Especially in Baden-Württemberg, the streets could get really crowded stern.de reported.

The highest probability of traffic jams is expected on Thursday afternoon. Holidaymakers from many federal states, including Hesse, Saxony and Thuringia, use the autumn holidays to travel to the south or to the coast. The motorways in the southwest are particularly hard hit, such as the A5 from Weinheim to Basel, the A6 from Mannheim to Nuremberg, the A8 from Karlsruhe to Munich and the A81 from Heilbronn to Singen. But you should also be prepared for heavy traffic in the Alpine countries.

Travel times at a glance

Things could get tight if you're traveling at any of the following times:

  • Donnerstag Nachmittag, 2. Oktober: Spitzenstau am einfallsreichen Feiertag.
  • Freitag Vormittag, 3. Oktober: Während die meisten Urlauber aufbrechen.
  • Sonntag Nachmittag, 5. Oktober: Rückreise für viele Urlauber.

What many people shouldn't forget is the truck driving ban on Friday, which applies to vehicles over 7.5 tons on German motorways from midnight to 10 p.m. This could make a positive contribution to relieving traffic, but at the same time it should worsen traffic jams on previous weekdays.

Waiting for the toll?

In addition, over 1,300 construction sites in Germany were pointed out, which could make traveling even more difficult. The ADAC recommends finding out about the current traffic situation in good time and considering alternative routes if necessary. Crowded streets abroad can also be expected; especially at border crossings where random checks can take place.

But it's not just those who drive their own car who have to deal with traffic jams. Rental cars are also very popular, and the ADAC offers easy payment options. Payment can be made via PayPal up to 24 hours before rental; a credit card is required for short-term bookings. Please note: When renting directly on site, a credit card in the driver's name is required for the deposit. Cash payment is not possible carvermietung.adac.de informed.
