Autumn holidays cause traffic chaos: there is a risk of traffic jams on the A1 and A7!
With the start of the autumn holidays, students in Lower Saxony and Bremen are creating a hustle and bustle on the streets. This weekend there was a noticeable relief in traffic, which had been characterized by long traffic jams on Friday. The A7 and A1 motorways were particularly affected, where traffic jams and slowdowns were observed on the routes to and from larger cities. For example, on the A7 in the direction of Kassel, traffic jams of up to 5 kilometers long formed between the Hannover-Süd triangle and Hildesheim, while on the A1 between Hamburg-Heimfeld and Othmarschen there was up to 8 kilometers of stalled traffic. In the opposite direction, on the A1 between the Stuhr triangle and Bremen-Hemelingen, the standstill also extended for around 7 kilometers.
The ADAC assumes that there will be a lot of traffic at the end of the holidays. The heavily frequented routes include the A1 from Dortmund via Bremen to Hamburg and the A7, which leads from Hamburg to Flensburg. In all likelihood, you can't expect free driving pleasure here - especially on Fridays when work meets tourist traffic.
Current traffic situation
The traffic situation in Lower Saxony remains tense: loud NDR Travelers on the A7 had to expect additional disruptions, especially near Hildesheim and in the direction of Hamburg, especially at the Maschener Kreuz and the Elbtunnel. The A1 is also a hotspot for traffic jams, especially in the metropolitan areas of Bremen and Hamburg. Road traffic accident statistics show that accidents - both with and without personal injury - are always recorded in these mobile massifs, which is a further indication of the current traffic-heavy climate.
For the coming weekends, the ADAC generally advises choosing off-peak times for your journey and paying attention to traffic updates. When the autumn weather is nice, there can easily be increased excursion and travel traffic. The ADAC traffic jam balance speaks volumes: Last summer there were 4,546 traffic jams in Lower Saxony, which is hardly different from the previous year. However, due to a decrease in construction sites from 79 to 56, the ADAC found that the traffic load on certain routes has increased significantly.
Autumn break dates and outlook
The autumn holidays in northern Germany start at the same time for Lower Saxony and Bremen, from October 13th to October 25th, while Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein will end their holidays a little later. At these dates, particularly heavy traffic is forecast on the A1, A2, A7, A24 and A31 motorways.
- Bremen: 13.10. bis 25.10.
- Niedersachsen: 13.10. bis 25.10.
- Hamburg: 20.10. bis 31.10.
- Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: 20.10. bis 25.10.
- Schleswig-Holstein: 20.10. bis 30.10.
As a result, travel in the region will remain dynamic and one should always be on guard to avoid traffic jams. So that drivers have a good hand in choosing their travel times.
