Goodbye dead spots: Telekom brings mobile communications to the Vellahner mountains!

The Vellahner mountains along the B5 are known for often suffering from radio silence. But that could soon change. Loud Northern Courier Telekom has significantly improved mobile phone coverage in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district and recently put three new antenna locations into operation. One of these locations is in Vellahn.

There are now 172 mobile phone locations established throughout the district, providing a proud 99 percent of the population with fast mobile communications. The need for bandwidth continues unabated; it increases by around 30 percent annually. In order to meet this challenge, Telekom plans to expand a further 101 locations with LTE and 5G.

New impetus for mobile phone coverage

In the last four weeks, Telekom has expanded its mobile network to 772 locations. The company announced that 110 new locations are now equipped with LTE and 5G. Capacity was increased at 499 existing locations, and 5G was deployed for the first time in 163 of these locations. These details come from a report by Telecom out.

Statistically, around 96 percent of households can now access Telekom's 5G network, with LTE coverage even reaching 99 percent. The goal is to provide 99 percent of the population with 5G by 2025. This is an important concern for many users, especially at a time when internet speeds are constantly increasing.

5G on the rise

The progress of 5G coverage in Germany cannot be overlooked. The Federal Network Agency reports that by 2023, 5G coverage by at least one network operator will have already reached 90 percent of Germany - a significant increase compared to 79 percent in the previous year.

Telekom achieves an area coverage of 59 percent. For consumers, this not only means better network coverage, but also higher data rates and faster download speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second.

However, in order to benefit from the advantages of the 5G network, end customers need a corresponding 5G-capable device and a suitable contract. Telekom's expansion plan envisages initially using the existing 4G infrastructure for 5G dynamic spectrum sharing before switching to a complete 5G standalone network.

In the municipality of Amt Neuhaus, which is near Vellahn, several radio masts were built in 2024 to minimize dead spots in the region. This shows a clear trend towards strengthening the mobile communications infrastructure - not only in urban areas, but also in rural regions.

Telekom has a good hand at this point by seeking cooperation with municipalities and private owners in order to rent space for the new locations. Landlords can count on long-term, local rent – a win-win for everyone involved.

The developments in the mobile network are a positive step into the future. Whether in rural areas or in the city – it is time for all users to benefit from better connections.
