Northwest Mecklenburg: Most family-friendly district in the north!

There is reason to be happy in the Northwest Mecklenburg district: According to a current survey, the region achieved the best value in the “Family & Children” area in the entire northeast, with an impressive 6.94 on a scale of 1 to 10. This shows that the quality of life is very popular here, especially in comparison to neighboring regions such as the Uckermark and the Hanseatic city of Rostock, which follow in second and third place nordkurier.de.

The overall quality of life in Northwest Mecklenburg was rated 7.17, with the cleanliness of the region receiving a very positive rating of 7.75 and the leisure activities for animals receiving a very positive rating of 7.25. The feedback from the approximately 16,664 survey participants was consistently good: many reported a high quality of life and that important facilities were within walking distance. The respondents only see potential for improvements in the areas of healthcare and local public transport.

Family-friendly offers

The city of Wismar can particularly score points when it comes to offers for families and children. The provision of playgrounds is very much appreciated here. The Ludwigslust-Parchim district, which scored 6.88 in the survey, can also boast family-friendly structures, even if the offer for families and children here, at 6.26, does not quite come close to the numbers in northwest Mecklenburg. The communities of Pampow and Stralendorf have also achieved remarkable values, with Pampow being particularly valued for its proximity to the state capital.

The assessment situation shows that the infrastructure, including childcare options and schools, is essential for families. In Pampow, for example, the quality of life is rated at 7.79, while the offer for families and children is 7.16. Stralendorf has an overall rating of 6.12, with the value for families and children being 7.10.

Support for families

The state offers various support services for families in the region. For example, child benefit is paid up to the age of 18 and, under certain conditions, up to the age of 25 for children who are in training or studying. From 2021, the monthly child benefit is 219 euros for the first and second children, 225 euros for the third and 250 euros for each additional child. Applying for child benefit is done unbureaucratically through the family fund, as wfg-nwm.de informs.

In addition, families with low incomes can benefit from the child allowance, which brings financial relief. The prerequisite is that the children live in the same household and are younger than 25 years old. There are also various exemptions from daycare fees as well as support from the education and participation package.

If you have any questions about these topics, the Familienkasse Nord is available and offers contact by telephone, email and even video chat. Further information can be found on the [Familienkasse] website (https://www.familienkasse.de).

The Home Check survey provided additional insights in two main categories, safety and cleanliness. The next report will be published next Wednesday and could highlight further challenges that need to be overcome.
