Industrial Heritage Days: Discover unique monuments by the water!

The anticipation is increasing, because on September 27th and 28th, 2025 it will be that time again: The “Days of Industrial Culture on the Water” in Schwerin and the Ludwigslust-Parchim district invite you to experience the impressive role of water in industrial history up close. Over 100 monuments will open their doors this weekend and more than 200 events await guests. Culture MV reports that the event takes place every two years and this year is taking place in the Hamburg metropolitan region and at another 50 locations in northern Germany.

Discover impressive harbor facilities, historic ships, lighthouses, water towers, bridges, factories and mills that many visitors usually don't get to see. The goal? To make the diverse industrial culture on the water tangible. There are a few highlights in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that are particularly noteworthy, making the event a truly unique experience.

Exciting highlights in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

In Boizenburg, visitors can expect a season-ending concert on the historic freighter “Minna”, which puts the local music scene in the spotlight. Northern Courier has already highlighted the program items in advance, including the traditional jazz concert with the “Trio Plus” in Brömsenberg and an informative exhibition in the old leather factory in Grabow with the title “Interwoven – Painting and Braiding”. Here you can experience art and culture up close, complemented by exciting live music.

Another gem is the historic waterworks in Parchim, which provides insights into the operation of a building that is over 100 years old. The Eldemühle will also be hosting a staircase concert on September 27th, giving visitors the opportunity to experience the old mill in a new light. Other places such as the water tower in Lübz and the lift bridge in Plau am See promise guests exciting tours and insights into the industrial history of the region.

These days are not only a celebration of industrial history, but also an attractive opportunity for families and children. In the old paper factory in Neu Kaliss, the little ones can take part in a creative hands-on program.
