Telekom brings fast internet: New cell phone masts in the district!

Mobile phone coverage in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district has received a new boost. As nordkurier.de reports, Telekom has put a new mobile phone site into operation near Wöbbelin on Autobahn 14, which offers both 4G and 5G coverage. This means that 93 percent of the area in the district is now covered by mobile communications and an impressive 99 percent of households have access to fast mobile communications.

But that's not all. Improving supply along the important Berlin-Hamburg railway line is also on the priority list. This expansion is even more important due to the constantly growing demand for data volume, which increases by around 30 percent annually.

Close dead spots

Telekom is taking on the challenge of tackling existing supply bottlenecks in other regions. Telekom has already put a new mobile phone antenna site into operation in the Südwestpfalz district [rheinpfalz.de]. The plans here are ambitious: the radio stations are to be doubled within the next three years. This initiative not only includes the construction of new sites, but also modernizations of existing antennas. The need for efficient networks is undisputed in both districts.

What is particularly noteworthy is that the cell phone locations support Advanced Mobile Location (AML) emergency call technology. In the event of an emergency call, this technology transmits the caller's location to the emergency call center. In addition, danger messages are sent to cell phones in the affected radio cells via cell broadcast. Such security features are a huge benefit for citizens.

5G expansion and data volume

The trend continues to be strongly towards 5G. tagesschau.de reports that over 95 percent of the population in Germany now has access to 5G. Users are seeing increasing data usage, and Deutsche Telekom alone transferred almost 2.7 billion gigabytes in 2023, representing an increase of around 10 percent compared to the previous year. Sporting events such as Champions League games also play an important role in driving up data traffic.

Mobile phone providers are aware of the challenges that come with the continuous need for data. Solutions are being created to expand network capacity and close dead spots so that those who rely on stable connections do not end up with nothing. The expansion goes hand in hand with the need to also meet future requirements such as the use of artificial intelligence.

Overall, mobile phone providers are faced with the task of not only securing but also expanding their connection to the digital future. This requires close collaboration with municipalities and private property owners to develop new locations. Providing landlords with long-term, local rents creates an incentive that benefits everyone involved.

The topic of mobile communications not only brings new impetus to technology development, but also a clear benefit for the community. The next few years promise an exciting journey into the digital future.
