Deception”: Philip Angermeyer with woodcuts about powerful people in Dömitz!
An exciting exhibition will soon open in the Dömitz Fortress that will captivate art lovers and the curious. On Friday, August 15th, from 6 p.m., the artist Philip Angermeyer will show his works in the show entitled “Verblendenung”. The theme of this exhibition is about the “story of crumbling power and desperate protectionism” like that Northern Courier reported. Angermeyer, who lives in the picturesque district of Groß Schmölen, appreciates the isolation of this area and is inspired by its tranquility.
Like a reflection of his thoughts, the exhibition invites visitors not only to look at the works, but to grasp their deeper meaning. In the dialogue between painting and woodcut, the interplay of color, form and perception becomes the central experience. The Dömitz Fortress, which acts as a “third voice”, creates an unforgettable ambience Event portal Dömitz.
A look at the works
In “Verblendenung” Angermeyer will show numerous prominent personalities, including Donald Trump and Elon Musk, as part of his woodcut works. These works are characterized by a fascinating mix of techniques, with each printing plate being processed several times and overprinted with up to fourteen layers of color. This allows for a special materiality and expressiveness in his works of art.
After completing a master's degree in printmaking, Angermeyer has firmly established himself in this technique both artistically and from a teaching perspective. He brings in his experiences and conveys the magic of woodcuts. This old printing technique is still one of the most fundamental and formative forms of printmaking today, which is constantly being reinterpreted in the current art scene, as the extensive exhibition "Woodcut. 1400 to today" in the copper engraving cabinet of the State Museums in Berlin impressively demonstrates SMB.
Details about the exhibition
The exhibition runs until September 21st and is open to anyone interested from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to experience the complexity of woodcut art and the creative work of Philip Angermeyer.
The vernissage will be opened by Wolfgang Vogt and will also offer an artist talk where the audience can immerse themselves in the artist's world of thoughts. Be there and enjoy an inspiring exchange about art, technology and what makes Angermeyer's works so unique.
