Vitalcampus Geesthacht: New course for health and digitalization!

On July 1, 2025, the hospital in Geesthacht began operations under new management. A new owner, Captain Thomas Pötzsch (CTP), an entrepreneur from Schleswig-Holstein, has taken over the helm and is bringing a breath of fresh air into the facility. The takeover includes around 700 employees who work in the hospital, the medical care center and the senior center. The insolvency proceedings of these facilities have now finally ended, which secures medical care in the region and holds out the prospect of its expansion. Under the new name “Vitalcampus Geesthacht”, a clear focus will be placed on holistic health topics in the future: prevention, treatment and healing are at the center of the strategic orientation, such as Duchy Direct reported.

Particular attention is paid to the implementation of a digitalization strategy, which includes, among other things, the use of diagnostic artificial intelligence (AI). This innovation is intended not only to increase efficiency, but also to reduce the workload for doctors and nursing staff so that there is more time for patients. A new bidder with a convincing buyer concept has prevailed and thus the interest of the previous investors, Dr. Stephan Engels-de Rey and Yenna Haack, who probably won't get a chance now. This is reported by the KMA Online.

Thanks and recognition for the team

Managing director Tobias Vaasen, who took over operational management during the bankruptcy period, is pleased with the positive news for the region and the continuation of the health program. “It is important that we stick together in difficult times,” says Vaasen and would like to thank the employees, employee representatives, Mayor Olaf Schulze and the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Health for their support during the insolvency proceedings. Administrator Andreas Romey also emphasizes the great team effort that helped maintain the hospital in Geesthacht.

The new concept, which provides for the complete takeover of medical care, including outpatient services, has already been positively received by creditor committees and employee representatives. Further information will be announced once the contract negotiations have been completed, but the name of the investor will only be announced once all necessary signatures have been received.

Looking at digitalization in healthcare

Digitalization in the healthcare system is also seen in Geesthacht as a decisive factor in overcoming the challenges of today. Loud bpb Digitalization not only increases efficiency in hospital operations, but also improves patient care through innovative forms of application, such as telemedicine and digital health applications. These new technologies are increasingly being used to ensure high quality service and securely manage patients' health data.

Overall, the Vitalcampus Geesthacht shows how important it is to rely on modern strategies and to explore new paths in treatment and care. The courage to change could be a role model for other institutions facing similar challenges.
