Chaos on Halloween night: Police fight against riots and firecrackers!
On the night of October 31st to November 1st, 2025, when the people of Cologne dressed up in their scariest costumes, the police in several regions of Germany had their hands full. This year's Halloween was marked by numerous operations and disturbing incidents that put a lot of strain on law enforcement.
A number of incidents occurred in the area of responsibility of the Neubrandenburg police headquarters, which includes the districts of Mecklenburg Lake District, Vorpommern-Greifswald and Vorpommern-Rügen. In Demmin in particular, residents reported several disturbances on Treptower Strasse, where circular loops of loud fireworks were affected. After the police intervened at 10:45 p.m., ten young people were confronted who, according to nordkurier.de, were having fun with unauthorized, foreign fireworks.
Disorders in several cities
In Neustrelitz, also in the Mecklenburg Lake District, groups of young people were seen parading through the streets with illegal fireworks around 6:40 p.m. But not only the police, but also the local food stalls seemed to be on top of the action while the young people were making jokes. At midnight, further incidents were reported, such as a fire extinguisher stolen by a group from an apartment, with damage estimated at around 300 euros.
The night was similar in other parts of Germany, such as in Bad Kreuznach, where the police were also called upon. They reported several disturbances of the peace, in particular firecrackers being set off. Nine physical injuries were recorded that night, even if most of the revelers were in a good mood. [swr.de].
Vandalism and threats
The acts of vandalism were not limited to one region. Halloween decorations worth several hundred euros were stolen in Kirn and there were similar incidents in other cities such as Kaiserslautern and Hüffler in which unknown persons caused significant damage to property.
A worrying development also took place in Drolshagen (North Rhine-Westphalia), where a firecracker was thrown into a refugee shelter. This shows that the celebrations were not always peaceful. Officials also had to intervene in the Kusel district when unknown people sprayed pepper spray on passers-by from a moving car. Two people had to be treated.
Halloween is the focus of the discussion
Looking at the origins of Halloween, which has its roots in ancient Celtic festivals, the question arises to what extent such celebrations should continue to represent true values. Halloween, formerly known as “All Hallows’ Evening” or “All Saint’s Eve,” is often associated with customs, the use of food, and immersion in ancient traditions. A discussion of the customs of the holiday highlights biblical principles that may invite reflection.
Overall, it is to be hoped that the police's experiences on this Halloween night will lead to a rethink among those celebrating. Treating other people and the environment with respect could reduce incidents in the future and help such celebrations regain their original, happy character.
