Home check shows: Mecklenburg Lake District in a downward trend!
In northeastern Germany, a clear picture emerges from the current survey carried out by Nordkurier as part of the “Heimatcheck”. A proud 3,576 citizens from the Mecklenburg Lake District gave their opinion on various areas of life. However, the results reach a modest level: in the ranking of all ten regions, the district comes in second to last place with an average rating of a meager 5.75 points.
The catering industry was only rated 4.52 points by the participants, while the retail sector did slightly better and received 4.67 points. Health care and public transport also receive negative feedback. But there are also bright spots: Neukalen boasts an excellent culinary offering and received the best rating with 8.01 points. In contrast, Lindetal (2.79) and Neuenkirchen (2.85) perform particularly poorly.
Challenges of the catering industry
The catering industry is repeatedly described as being in crisis. Marco Messer, an industry expert, emphasizes that exploding costs, staff shortages and unattractive working hours are putting a heavy burden on profitability. Bureaucratic hurdles make it even more difficult for restaurateurs to run their businesses profitably. Limited opening times and offers seem inevitable. Particularly worrying is the question of successors for innkeepers, which is increasingly moving into the background.
But it's not just the catering industry that is struggling with tough cuts. Retailers are not getting away unscathed either. Tino Beig from the North Trade Association signals that demographic developments, the handling of online trading and recently exploding energy costs are having a major impact on the situation in retail.
Optimistic assessment in Neubrandenburg
In contrast to the general negative assessments, Beig sees the situation in Neubrandenburg in particular as somewhat more positive. While the challenges are formidable, there may also be opportunities that can be seized. The survey shows that a total of 16,664 people took part in the survey, of which 15,183 were from the focus region of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Uckermark and Prignitz, which provides a good insight into the needs of the region.
The results in each category were collected on a scale of 1 to 10 and the next publication is expected on health care and seniors. The full details of the assessment of gastronomy in the region can be found at Restaurant Rankings, where a more detailed analysis of the gastronomic offerings can be found. A sign that there can also be positive developments as long as the industry's challenge is taken seriously.
