Art collection Neubrandenburg: Merete Cobarg goes after 27 years!

Neubrandenburg, Deutschland - On June 26, 2025, an era comes to an end: Dr. Merete Cobarg, who led the Neubrandenburg art collection for over 27 years, retires. At 66, she says goodbye to her position and looks back on an exciting time. "The further development of the art collection was a fulfilling journey for me," said Cobarg when she said goodbye. The art collection, which moved from a villa at the horse market to its current location in the Großer Wollweberstraße in 2003, has since presented impressive 131 exhibitions and almost 150,000 visitors: received inside.

The gallery has made a name for itself by showing works by well -known artists such as Daniel Spoerri and Günther Uecker. It is noteworthy that Uecker acted no less than ten times as the patron of the art prize. In her time as head, Cobarg not only diversified the art collection, but also promoted the dialogue between art and the public.

A look into the future

The contribution of the art collection of Neubrandenburg to the cultural landscape is undeniable. It is part of the state castles, gardens and art collections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (SSGK M-V), which represent important architecture and garden art of northern Germany. The SSGK M-V, which was founded in 2018, pursues central tasks such as the collection and preservation of Kunstgut as well as scientific research and the presentation in constant and changing exhibitions. The State Museum of Schwerin is currently closed due to renovation, with the planned reopening on October 30, 2025.

Until then, exciting programs outside the museum are offered to maintain the range of art and culture in the country. More information about the current events and exhibitions can be found on SSGK M-V .
