Neubrandenburg's hotel construction is delayed: it won't open until 2028!
Something is happening in Neubrandenburg: The city is expecting the construction of a new four-star hotel that will operate under the name “Markgrafenhof”. With around 142 rooms and a central location opposite the regional museum, the hotel is set to be a real eye-catcher. But the joy of the new project is clouded by delays, such as NDR reported. The construction work originally planned for this year has to be postponed to 2026, which means that the opening is not expected until 2028 at the earliest.
The delay is due to the extensive construction work that is necessary on the site of the former Margrafenhof. In order to be able to carry out the construction project, the renovation of Poststrasse and the renewal of the supply lines running underneath are essential. The total costs for this amount to around 1.8 million euros, with funding amounting to 967,500 euros being made available. These funds were already approved in autumn 2022, reported Northern Courier.
A project with history
The construction work is still in the future, but preparations are in full swing. The renowned architectural firm “SMAP” from Berlin, which was already responsible for the renovation of the Neptun Hotel, has taken over the planning of the new hotel. It will have three floors, have a bright facade and have outdoor seating. The entrance to the hotel will be on the corner of Poststrasse.
The history of the building site is also interesting: a synagogue stood there until 1938, the remains of which were found during archaeological excavations between 2016 and 2017. These memories of the past are preserved through a monument commemorating the destruction of the synagogue on November 9, 1938. The city of Neubrandenburg not only has a new hotel in prospect, but also the opportunity to integrate historical elements into the planning, such as We are Müritzers reported.
An opportunity for the city
The Neubrandenburg housing company is also planning to build apartments on the same site, which could further increase the attractiveness of the city center. Mayor Silvio Witt has confirmed that road construction work will begin in 2025, so residents and potential guests can expect changes in the city soon. This hotel project will not only boost tourism, but also create new jobs and further establish Neubrandenburg as a livable location.
