Volunteers wanted: Wittenberge is preparing for a big garden show!

Preparations for the 2027 State Garden Show in Wittenberge are in full swing. The coordinators Sabrina Klabuhn and Tina Vogel are currently busy recruiting committed volunteers for the large community project. So far, 111 active helpers have already signed up to take on the diverse tasks surrounding the garden show.

The State Horticultural Show will be a large-scale landscape project on a spacious 20-hectare site with a 1.2-kilometer-long Elbe promenade. More than 1,000 events are planned that will bring the city and the area to life between April and October 2027. The volunteers will be active in everything from guest tours to the support team for events to the children's and youth team.

Volunteers of all ages

What's particularly nice is that the ages of the helpers range from 16 to 83, with the proportion of women making up a remarkable 66 percent. The volunteers serve as contact persons for guests and help ensure that the numerous events run smoothly. Managing director Ernst Volkhardt emphasizes the great commitment of the volunteers and emphasizes their valuable support for the entire preparations.

The State Garden Show will not only be a visual highlight, but also a place of community! The creation of seven new sports and play areas, which will remain usable for residents even after the exhibition, brings another plus point. The 42 meter high water tower, which will be converted into a viewing platform, will be a popular attraction during and after the garden show.

Commitment is required!

The organizers are calling on the people of Prignitz to continue to register as volunteers. Klabuhn can be found at the weekly market on Paul-Lincke-Platz on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. to give interested citizens more information. All relevant details for volunteers are also available on the State Garden Show website. Volunteering is not only important in Wittenberge, but is also reflected in many other areas. According to Statista, over 86,000 sports clubs in Germany and numerous charitable organizations rely on volunteer work, which underlines the importance of these voluntary activities.

A look at the upcoming event in Wittenberge promises not only a thriving city, but also a strong sense of community through volunteering - a real “making a difference together” for everyone involved.
