The 24th Sweden Festival is just around the corner in the charming town of Wismar, which will take place from August 14th to 17th. The city has therefore decided to take targeted measures to ensure the protection of visitors and participants. This reports that Northern Courier.
As part of the security concept, which was agreed upon jointly by the city, police and organizers, particular attention is paid to defending against incoming vehicles. In view of the increasing danger situation, which was recently increased by the attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg, it was necessary to revise the security measures. This is done through the use of concrete elements and water containers, the exact locations of which are currently still being determined.
Increased security for everyone
One of the central aspects of the new concept is the additional fixed barriers in the city center and harbor area. In contrast to last year, the city is relying on fewer mobile security measures to ensure better protection. "We mainly use existing materials, but have also made new purchases worth around 12,000 euros. These materials can also be used for future events," explains a city spokesman. The safety measures will apply in the main areas from August 14th to 18th.
In order to increase security at the well-attended festival, two security services are deployed. This also includes bag checks, which are carried out if necessary. A strict ban on glass bottles, weapons, knives and other dangerous objects on the event site also reduces the risk for all participants.
