New bronze bells in Hohenkirchen: Sound Festival on November 16th!

In the tranquil community of Hohenkirchen near Wismar, an important chapter in the history of the parish was opened. New bronze bells were cast to replace those lost during World War II. This tradition will be celebrated on Sunday, November 16th, with the solemn consecration of the bells at 11 a.m. in the church Baltic Sea newspaper reported.

The history of the bells is impressive and moving at the same time. During the war, the previous bells were transported away and ultimately destroyed. In the post-war years, replacement iron bells were cast, but they did not sound nearly as melodious as the original bronze bells. Thanks to the renovation of the tower and numerous donations made available to the parish, this piece of tradition could now be preserved.

A festival of sounds

The new middle bell will function as a Sunday bell, calling believers to worship. There is also a small bell with the inscription “O Rex Gloriae Christe veni cum pace: O King of Glory, Christ, come with peace”. This bell will call for prayer three times a day. On the day of the festival, the sound of these new bells will be heard for the first time, along with the large old bell from the 14th century, giving those present a unique experience.

Following the consecration, everyone is cordially invited to a social gathering where there will be warm soup and coffee. Here community members have the opportunity to exchange ideas and celebrate together.

Road safety for pedestrians and cyclists

To avoid accidents, pedestrians and cyclists should act defensively and pay attention to their surroundings. Recommended measures include using sidewalks and cycle paths and wearing helmets and illuminated clothing at night. In this context, it is recommended to avoid distractions such as using cell phones or wearing headphones in order to always be alert.

These valuable tips and measures are part of the so-called Safe System Approach, which aims to reduce the number of road deaths and increase the safety of all road users.
