New mayor in Rüting: Fire station and bridges in focus!
On November 2, 2025, the citizens of the municipality of Rüting elected a new mayor in the Grevesmühlen-Land office. Rico Gindler from the CDU succeeded long-time incumbent Holger Hinze, who died in 2023. Voter turnout was a respectable 62 percent, a sign of the population's lively interest in local affairs. With Gindler at the helm, the community is now planning some exciting projects, including the construction of a new fire station with an integrated village community center.
The new construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 after the old building is demolished and is now in the financing phase. Gindler already has clear ideas about how he would like to strengthen the community's infrastructure. The focus is particularly on the bridges in the municipality; some must be reduced in the permitted load because they represent important transport routes for students and agriculture. Gindler is also interested in converting the street lighting to modern LED technology, although a lack of own funds has previously made it difficult to apply for funding.
Promote community spirit and communication
A central point in Gindler's agenda is also promoting community spirit among residents. He plans to continue the regular information magazine “Message in a Bottle” to keep citizens up to date on current developments in the community. Gindler himself is actively involved in community life and works as a trainer at FSV Testorf Upahl.
His official appointment and swearing-in is expected to take place at the next council meeting on November 17th. Gindler's motivation and commitment promise to bring a breath of fresh air into local politics and address the challenges of the coming years.
Meanwhile, an issue is causing a stir in the neighboring community of Neuenstein. The former Raiffeisen warehouse on the outskirts of Raboldshausen was offered for sale at a meeting there. Disagreement in the local council about digital participation in meetings led to intensive discussions. An application to participate in the meeting digitally was rejected by the SPD as being too quick. In addition, an application to build a new fire station in Obergeis divided opinions, with various financing models, some of which were heatedly discussed. The SPD parliamentary group then left the meeting to gain more time for deliberations.
These events show how important it is for citizens to be involved in the political process to find the best solutions for their communities. Rüting now has a new mayor, Rico Gindler, who could bring fresh impetus to municipal politics, while developments in the new mayoral elections are also important at the federal and state levels.
With the inauguration of a new fire station, the plans for the bridges and the change in street lighting, Rüting is taking a step into the future. It remains exciting to see how the community will develop under the new leadership.
