Rehnaer SV loses the cup, but remains close behind Gadebusch in the league!
On September 7th, 2025, there was a lot going on at the football clubs in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Rehnaer SV stands out among the teams. After a change of coach shortly before the start of the season and missing promotion in the last state class season, there are great expectations of the team. With a record of 9 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats, despite a defeat against TSG Gadebusch, Rehnaer SV remains in second place in the table of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional league Northern Courier reported.
The situation was anything but rosy before the start of the season: coach Nick Penk was fired just ten days before the first game. As a result, ex-coach Matthias Gödecke, assistant coach Sebastian Krüger and player-coach Nils Krause now jointly manage the team's fortunes. Although Rehnaer SV is successful in the league, the cup proved to be a stumbling block. With an early goal from Lars Wischnewski in the 9th minute everything looked good at first, but the team unfortunately lost 1:2 against FSV Blau-Weiß Greifswald.
Exciting league start and upcoming encounters
However, the first league games were promising for Rehnaer SV. A 2:2 against Neustadt-Glewe and a dramatic 7:6 win against SG Groß Stieten marked the start of the new season. “It is important that we continue to be successful in the league,” emphasizes Matthias Gödecke. The next match is against SG Carlow on September 13th, where the team wants to show their skills again.
In contrast, TSG Gadebusch, which is new to the regional league, celebrated a remarkable performance in the cup. Gadebusch won on penalties against SV Progress Neustadt-Glewe and was able to look forward to another successful weekend. In the previous league duel against Rehnaer SV, Marino Strauch scored 1-0 in the 22nd minute and Erik Schilke extended the lead to 2-0 in the 48th minute. This means that TSG Gadebusch dominates the table and remains undefeated with a record of 11 wins and 1 draw.
The national league at a glance
The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State League belongs to the second highest league in men's football in the state and is divided into two seasons: East and West. Each of these relays includes 14 teams. The champions of these two groups are promoted to the sixth-tier association league, although there are also regulations for promotion in the event of renunciation. This season the clubs have the chance to position themselves well, even if there is currently no promotion in sight for Rehnaer SV.
Exciting games await the teams and fans until the end of the league. It remains to be seen whether Rehnaer SV will continue to be successful and perhaps still make the leap to the top. Excitement is definitely guaranteed – football fever in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania remains high!
