Terrible bicycle accidents on the coast: two seriously injured!
Last weekend there were two serious bicycle accidents in Boltenhagen, which raised the question of security on the bike paths. A 60-year-old woman fell in Niendorf on Wohlenberger Wiek and unfortunately succumbed to her serious head injuries. At the same time, a man suffered several broken bones on the cliff in speech and had to be flown to a clinic with a rescue helicopter. The volunteers of the Boltenhagen volunteer fire brigade alerted these incidents, who were immediately in use in both accidents. While the fire brigade in Niendorf was requested by the rescue workers as a resuscitation aid, they had to run 340 meters through a grain field at the second scene of the accident to reach the injured man. A logistical challenge that was luckily mastered with the support of 16 emergency services that transported medical equipment.
The military leader Sebastian Hacker drew attention to an alarming fact: Many e-bikes especially encourage older people to go on two bikes. However, this can lead to dangerous situations, especially on non -suitable bike paths. The path on which the man on the cliffs fell was not an official bike path, but a private trail that is in a questionable condition due to rain and wear. Hacker therefore recommends wearing helmets and emphasizing the importance of closing the wheel. He also pointed out the dangers of the cliffs, where weather conditions such as heavy rains or storms can lead to dropouts.
The numbers don't lie
The current statistics are alarming: In 2024, 441 cyclists were killed in road traffic, including 192 Pedelec users. The increase in killed cyclists by 11.4 % since 2014 has been particularly worrying with regard to e-bikes. According to an elevation of Destatis, e-bikes are increasing danger, since they are often heavier and more shaky in borderline situations. If you consider that 63.5 % of the fatally injured cyclists were 65 years or older, it is clear that the security of our older fellow citizens should be a top priority.
According to Siegfried Brockmann from accident research The insurers, a high proportion of bicycle accidents is only due to uncontrolled e-bikers. Many cyclists underestimate their skills and their own security, which leads to overestimation and ultimately serious accidents. It is no wonder that the infrastructure plays a crucial role: bad bike paths contribute significantly to the accident scenario, in which collisions with cars also play a role.
Security is going on
In the light of these incidents and the statistical data, it becomes clear that it is high time to improve security on our bike paths. Hacker emphasizes that some fire brigades on the Quad coast use hard -to -reach places in order to be able to act quickly. It is the responsibility of everyone to ensure that cycling is also safe in critical situations. It is all the more important that the older generation in particular acts responsibly and bears the right protective equipment.
The latest events and the more common bicycle accidents call for measures and better information in order to avoid accidents in the future. The responsibility is not only among the cyclists themselves, but also with the infrastructure and the decision -makers who have to create safe conditions.
