Rico Gindler becomes the new mayor of Rüting – 71% approval!

In an exciting mayoral election, the municipality of Rüting has found a new leader. Rico Gindler from the CDU was elected as the new honorary mayor on Sunday with an overwhelming 71 percent of the vote. The 37-year-old mechanical engineering graduate, who is employed by the Bundeswehr, succeeds Holger Hinze, who died in May 2023. Hinze had been in this office since 1994 and had shaped the community over several legislative periods by being involved in various committees.

The election took place in the community hall of the Rütingen community center, where 454 eligible voters were able to cast their votes. Of these, 62 percent went to the polls, which is a respectable turnout for a small community. Gindler received a total of 196 yes votes, while his competitor, the independent Andreas Böhm, was left behind with 80 votes. Not only does Gindler have clear goals in mind, but he also emphasized the importance of collaboration in his future work.

The way into the future

The challenges that Gindler would like to overcome during his term of office are diverse. A central project will be the replacement of the fire station and community center, which is urgently needed. “We now have to work together to master the tasks ahead,” said Gindler after his election. The urgent need for such commitment is obvious, as Rüting is confronted with changes and the development of new ideas in order to maintain the quality of life for the approximately 450 residents.

In the coming weeks, the community will also elect another mayor, as elections are coming up in Dassow next Sunday. The successor to Sascha Kuhfuß, who has resigned from his position, is up for debate here. The race will be exciting as the candidate Kerstin Weiss (SPD) and the applicant Florian Müller (Ostseestrand Voters' Association) will compete against each other in order to win over the voters.

Looking ahead to the upcoming elections

The next local elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are already around the corner. On June 9, 2024, not only the honorary mayors will be elected, but also the district councils of the six districts and the members of the European Parliament. These elections will once again take place on the same day as the European elections, providing an exciting opportunity for voters to cast their vote not only locally but also at European level Wikipedia reported.

The election of Gindler shows that a breath of fresh air is coming into municipal politics, and with their election the citizens of Rüting have decided that they want changes and new approaches in their community. Now it's time for Rico Gindler to justify the voters' trust with actions and, together with the citizens, to shape a positive future for Rüting.
