Bahnhofstrasse Rostock: Successful renovation after 16 months!
After 16 months of intensive construction work, there is finally good news for all road users in the heart of Rostock: the renovation of Bahnhofstrasse in the “Beim Kuhtor” area has been successfully completed. This means that not only residents, but also commuters and visitors can use the important traffic artery again. How daily news reported that a total of around 2.5 million euros went into the measures to bring the area up to date.
The extensive renovation included not only the complete renovation of streets and sidewalks, but also the renovation of staircases and a complete conversion of the street lighting to LED. In addition, underground wastewater systems were renewed by Nordwasser GmbH and a robust combined sewer with a length of almost 120 meters was laid. This replaces a decades-old canal, some of which dates back to 1913.
Measures and changes
Particularly noteworthy is the design, which minimizes interventions on the surface. During the work, several large boulders and supporting structures had to be recovered, which increased the complexity of the project. The new combined sewer replaces the old one, which was shut down and dimmed. In addition, the eastern section “Beim Kuhtor” now also offers new ramps and stairs that ensure improved accessibility.
The project was coordinated by the Rostock Society for Urban Renewal, Urban Development and Housing mbH (RGS). In close cooperation with Nordwasser GmbH and the Warnow Water and Wastewater Association, we ensured that all construction work went smoothly. The planning came from VEAPLAN Rostock GbR and WASTRA-PLAN Ingenieurgesellschaft, while ASA-Bau GmbH was responsible for the implementation.
Financing and outlook
With a clever financing strategy, the renovation was carried out with around 1.25 million euros from urban development funding, with contributions from the federal government, the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the city of Rostock. The remaining amount was raised by the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock and various utility companies. This extensive renovation is an important step towards modern and functional urban development in Rostock and not only benefits traffic, but also the quality of life in the city area.
Overall, it can be seen that the efforts of the city and its partners to make Rostock an even more attractive place have been rewarded with visible progress. For the city's citizens and guests, this is a positive change that creates anticipation for future developments. Further information about the renovation can be found on the RGS website RGS.
