Banksy comes to Rostock: A masterpiece is unveiled!

A new chapter in art history is beginning in Rostock! The eagerly awaited exhibition “Banksy – A Vandal Turned Idol” will open on July 11th, which is also the first of its kind in the Hanseatic city. Organized by the Concert office Zahlmann GmbH, visitors can expect a colorful array of original works by the world-famous, anonymous artist Banksy, which have previously been seen in cities such as Berlin, Magdeburg and Chemnitz.

The exhibition takes place in the old OZ printing shop and will be open until December 14th. Here art lovers can admire 11 original works as well as 44 limited prints. Highlights include the two-part series of the iconic “Girl With Balloon” as well as a dedicated section dedicated to Banksy’s famous rats. “The exhibition has already attracted over 160,000 visitors in Germany and over three million worldwide,” announced the Baltic Sea newspaper.

Art meets technology

A special treat is the multimedia hall, where visitors can not only enjoy a 360-degree projection, but also a virtual reality experience that allows a tour of Bristol - Banksy's hometown. If required, a free audio guide in German and English is available. There are both time slot tickets and more flexible options for tickets.

The old print shop, now transformed into a cultural hotspot, will become the setting for an extraordinary event that is not only intended to shake up the art scene, but could also attract numerous visitors to the city.

A new landmark and current developments

Not only art has its place in Rostock, the city's development also remains exciting. The construction of the new Warnow Bridge, which is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2026, is estimated to cost around 63 million euros. This bridge will be 600 meters long and 6 meters wide, a true project that will connect pedestrians and cyclists. It will also be part of the international Copenhagen-Berlin cycle route.

There are more highlights coming up in the city's cultural events. Filming for Police Call 110 is currently underway at the Grand Hotel Heiligendamm, and the emotional debate about development plans in the Warnemünde local council is also arousing great interest. On July 23rd, the application to develop the Diedrichshäger Land, which has been under landscape protection since 1966, will be on the agenda - a topic that has heated up people's minds for years.

Meanwhile, an incident in Kühlungsborn is causing a stir: several vacationers' cars were deliberately scratched, resulting in property damage amounting to several thousand euros. The criminal police in Bad Doberan have started the investigation, but who is behind this impropriety remains unclear.

Another race of hearts runs until Wednesday: In the election for “Firefighter Hero of the Year”, the competitors are on the rise in a tight race with Anne Berner (34.4%), Tim Nahrstedt (31.1%), Gregor Wedig (20.6%) and Michael Homuth (13.9%). But who will ultimately be on the winner's podium remains to be seen.

So a lot is happening in Rostock - be it in the art world or in urban development: the future of the Hanseatic city will be exciting.
