Construction site chaos in Warnemünde: summer break for Rostocker Straße!

After the construction chaos in Warnemünde caused significant traffic disruptions, there is now light at the end of the tunnel: the construction site on Rostocker Straße is taking a summer break. The road will temporarily be accessible again from Tuesday, July 1st. This is a welcome relief for drivers and residents, who have been severely challenged by numerous diversions and closures in recent months. As the Baltic Sea newspaper reported, the first section of the construction site has already been completed and the road should be fully accessible by August 31st.

But the construction site work is not quite finished yet. There will continue to be a full closure in the northwestern area of Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße, and the second construction phase between the organic market and the intersection with Fritz-Reuter-Straße will start in September. These measures are part of a comprehensive project that includes the renewal of the drinking water pipes on Rostocker Straße. The Rostock municipal utilities and the Nordwasser company are in charge here. Overall, construction work is scheduled to be completed in April next year. The costs for replacing the drinking water system amount to around 1.2 million euros.

Details about the renovation

The renovation work, which began on March 24th, affects the main transport pipeline for drinking water, parts of which even date back to 1904. According to the Rostock city administration The project will be carried out in four construction phases. During the high season in July and August, the construction sites are interrupted for around eight weeks, so traffic remains largely unaffected.

In order to disrupt traffic as little as possible, the Alte Bahnhofstrasse will be closed on both sides, with each direction remaining accessible. Pedestrians can use the sidewalks, while there may be disruption to house connections. The city administration fully understands the challenges this construction work poses, particularly for residents and businesses in the area.

In parallel: district heating supply

The Rostock municipal utilities are taking advantage of the opportunity and at the same time expanding the district heating supply in the region. This is happening in parallel to the civil engineering work carried out by the company TIAS Tiesler Tief- und Hochbau GmbH from Waldeck. Once the work is completed, the road surface will also be renewed to enable residents and road users to drive safely.

The entire project is a real effort that not only serves to upgrade the infrastructure, but also optimizes the supply lines and improves the quality of life in Warnemünde through modern standards. We keep our fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly!
