This summer, the Warnow in Rostock will be the venue for the German Open Water Swimming Championships, which will take place from June 27th to 29th, 2025. The idyllic riverside area of the IGA Park in the Schmarl district offers a spectacular backdrop for the 438 registered athletes who will compete in a total of 14 competitions. These also include exciting junior races and the popular relays. The swimmers can look forward to a 1.25 kilometer long route that, among other things, goes around a traditional ship and offers the public a wonderful sight.
Loud NDR The championship is honored not only by participants from all over Germany, but also by 24 swimmers from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, who are mainly active in the youth sector. The four Rostock clubs SC Empor 2000, SV Olympia, TC Fiko and TG Trizack in particular have sent many players into the race. There are also participants from Stralsund and Schwerin who want to put their skills to the test.
Lea Boy in focus
Special attention will be paid to the multiple world and European champion Lea Boy from SV Würzburg 05. She has decided to compete in the 10 kilometer distance and, after several international successes, would like to finally win her first national championship title. How Swimsportnews reports, this is a big step for the athlete, who has not yet won a championship title over this distance. The 5 kilometer race as well as children's and youth swimming over 2.5 km and 7.5 km are also on the program, which particularly appeals to young swimmers.
A special highlight will be the Special Olympics competition on Saturday lunchtime, in which 12 swimmers with mental or multiple disabilities will take part. This event is a testament to inclusion in competitive sports and shows how diverse and engaging the championships program is.
A variety of titles
A total of 43 titles will be awarded at the championships, 34 of which are individual and 9 for relays. The regulations for this are clear: Only the 50 fastest entries in the qualification period from April 22, 2024 to April 6, 2025 are eligible to start. For the relay competitions, the 32 fastest entries can qualify German Aquatics communicates.
