Great success at the Language Festival 2025: Winners from Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt!

What a magnificent festival of languages! At the 34th Language Festival of the Federal Foreign Languages ​​Competition, which took place on June 25th in Schwerin, the student groups from two federal states particularly shined. The two winning teams, the Matthias-Claudius-Gymnasium from Gehrden and the Liborius-Gymnasium from Dessau-Roßlau, impressed the jury with their creative, English-language contributions.

None other than the patron of the competition, Simone Oldenburg, Minister for Education and Child Care in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, presented the prizes in the festive Golden Hall of the Neustädtisches Palais. As the first source reports, a total of around 1,900 teams with over 10,000 students impressed the audience with a colorful mix of foreign language plays, films and radio plays.

A look at the award winners

In total, six second and eleven third prizes were awarded as part of the competition, in which the best entries reached the grand final. The lucky runners-up include teams from:

  • Dante-Gymnasium München (Bayern)
  • Mariengymnasium Werl (NRW)
  • Landesschule Pforta in Naumburg (Sachsen-Anhalt)
  • Oskar-von-Miller-Gymnasium München (Bayern)
  • Wilma-Rudolph-Oberschule Berlin

The third award ceremony also had a wide spread: teams from Bremen, Berlin, Bavaria, Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Saarland and a German school in Porto were among the winners.

The French contribution “Pas Silencieux” from the Oskar-von-Miller-Gymnasium was particularly praised, receiving a special prize from the student jury. In general, the national competition is characterized by intercultural exchange and curiosity about foreign languages ​​and cultures. Around 15,000 participants come every year to show their talent and explore new horizons.

New year, new participants

Registration for the next round of the competition is already in full swing. About the platform Education & Talent Students in grades 6 to 13 can register until October 6th. As the Press portal informed, participants can choose the language of their choice and compete in various categories. The motto “Language is your window to new worlds” attracts many creative minds and promotes fun in using language.

The competition not only offers the opportunity to win prizes in the form of scholarships, cash prizes and non-cash prizes, but also a platform to discover and further develop one's own linguistic talents.
