New regional express brings hope for Mecklenburg's rail travelers!
On the rail network in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a lot is happening. A new regional express called RE 85 is now being used between Berlin and Schwerin. The aim is to improve the connection of the region, especially for the cities of Neustrelitz and goods that will benefit from this measure. With this initiative, you want to strengthen rail traffic and create a few additional connections. However, the trains in Neustrelitz only hold north, towards the south they drive through the city without stopping. This is due to a lack of platforms, so that a real improvement in mobility is somewhat limited here. The new trains are scheduled until the timetable change in December and are supposed to attract more travelers, reports [Tagesschau] (https://www.tagesschau.de/inland/Mecklenburgvorpommern/neue-zug connections-fuer-neustrelitz-und-waren ,Mvregioneubrandenburg-320.html).
But the joy of the new connections will only be short -term. From December 15, the railway line between Neustrelitz, Waren and Rostock will be closed for almost three months due to a bridge tear. This means that train traffic in the region comes almost completely to a standstill. According to [VCD Nordost] (https://nordost.vcd.org/dartsite/drei-monate-he- and-regional zuege-von-berin-waren-nach-rostock-Mecklenburg-Seenplatte-Nahsezu-bahn-bahn-ver traffic-traffic-dismissal), this will significantly impair the mobility of the residents as the region Large nodes are left behind.
sporting timetable management required
Indeed, Dr. Wilfried Kramer from the VCD Nordost about the current situation, which has never occurred in 150 years of railway history. He criticizes the lack of coordination between the construction work and the timetable and calls for improved construction management and comprehensive passenger information from Deutsche Bahn. Travelers who use the IC line 17 must also do without long-distance transport by mid-March 2025 and in Neustrelitz and switch to alternative means of transport.
A look at the connections shows that there are only three IC trips in each direction via Schwerin to Rostock every day. The trains between Stavenhagen and Oertzenhof as well as between Stargard and Demmin Castle have also been discontinued for almost a year because of the renewal of signal box technology. As a result, mobility in the third largest city of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Neubrandenburg, is almost completely decoupled.
The effects are noticeable
Particularly annoying for travelers is the fact that the replacement of the rail replacement that is to be set up is extremely time -consuming and that the travel times can extend up to two hours. Many commuters and travelers are now facing the challenge of how they best get to their goals. Corrections in the Baltic Sea turning towards Stralsund, Rügen and Usedom are also necessary to take into account the uncoordinated construction work during the summer holidays in Berlin and Brandenburg.
With a long -term vision, it is not enough to introduce new connections if there are also extensive restrictions. The VCD points out that the current construction management requires an urgent need for action in order to secure customer satisfaction and to avoid further passenger losses. In a region that rely on a well -developed rail infrastructure, a lot has to happen in the next few months to deal with these challenges.
