Premiere of The Merry Widow”: An operetta hit in the theater tent!
On Friday, June 27th, Franz Lehár's operetta “The Merry Widow” will celebrate its premiere in the new theater tent at the Küchengarten in Schwerin. This work, which first saw the light of day in 1905, has become one of the most popular representatives of its genre and was brought to the stage by Andrea Schwalbach. How nice culture mv reports, viewers will not only enjoy magical melodies such as the “Vilja Song” and “Lips Silent”, but also a rousing plot.
The center of the story is Hanna, a rich widow who is swarmed by numerous men at the Pontevedrine embassy ball in Paris. But her secret lies not only in her fortune, but also in her love for her former lover, Count Danilo, who was commissioned to marry her in order to save the financial fate of her homeland of Pontevedro. Even if the old love between Danilo and Hanna rekindles, there are obstacles: Danilo doesn't want to woo Hanna just for her money, while Hanna insists that he first say "I love you" to her, something he has sworn never to say. An exciting game of intrigue unfolds that seems to question social conventions the website of the Mecklenburg State Theater describes.
