Schwerin in cycling fever: Everyman race attracts 1000 participants!
Today, September 11th, 2025, the signs in Schwerin are all about the fixed cycling calendar. The Everyman Cycling Race is taking place for the tenth time, an event that has become a real highlight for all sports enthusiasts. With around 1,000 participants expected, of which 842 have already registered, the excitement is high. Those who make a last-minute decision can even register until shortly before the start - this is a great opportunity for everyone who loves an adrenaline rush!
For little cyclists, there is also a scooter course that is 100 meters long and invites you to take part. Participation in this course is free of charge; all you need is your own equipment, such as a scooter and helmet. Even the youngest ones can put their fitness to the test here.
Start times and routes
The event on Sunday offers different start times and distances:
- 10:00 Uhr: 60-Kilometer-AOK-Fitnessrunde, Stadtwerke-Elektrofahrradrunde, AOK-Tandemrunde
- 10:15 Uhr: 91-Kilometer-Sparkassen-Rennen und Sparkassen-Tandemrunde
The participation fees for the cycling races vary between 69 and 89 euros, which is a worthwhile investment for many athletes. The participants start at the Schweriner Marstall event site, and the line-up takes place on Werderstrasse. Here the organizers, the association “Around the Pfaffenteich” and Michael Kruse, are expecting a large number of helpers, around 200 in number, who will secure the event with the support of the fire department and police.
Support and mood
A refreshment station in Langen Brütz provides the necessary energy supplies during the races. Spectators are warmly invited to cheer on the participants in surrounding towns such as Pinnow, Basthorst, Zittow, Retgendorf and Paulsdamm. The finish line takes the cyclists back to Werderstraße am Marstall – a great destination that invites you to celebrate.
However, residents and drivers must prepare for road closures. On Sunday, September 14th, numerous streets in the area will be closed between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., with full closures in Schwerin on Werderstrasse from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Growing cycling boom
Cycling is booming: in 2024 there was a huge demand for starting places at various events, and this trend will continue in 2025. Events in cities like Cologne were sold out weeks in advance. The everyman race at Rad am Ring and other important races also recorded record numbers of participants. The Ötztaler Cycling Marathon in particular recorded an impressive 25,198 applications for just 4,000 starting places, which corresponds to an increase of 15 percent compared to the previous year. Figures like these show that cycling is still very popular and will continue to develop!
The event landscape in 2025 will be characterized by an increase in the various categories: Gravel rides, which are just emerging, will take on an increasingly central role in the popular sports calendar, while MTB tours will see a decline. In the meantime, the HYROX competition has grown in popularity and thus rounds off the colorful cycling landscape.
Overall, it shows that cycling is not just a hobby, but also a real passion for many citizens - and this fun is carried on with events such as the Everyman Cycling Race.
