Gaming fun for the whole family: 21,000 visitors to the Rostock trade fair!
The 11th “Spielidee” trade fair opens a big chapter at the Rostock Hanseatic Fair – and not just for the players, but for the entire region. From November 7th to 9th, 2025, the event attracted around 21,000 visitors, underlining the popularity of games in northern Germany. This number is at a similar level to previous years, and shows that interest in board and board games remains unbroken. All gaming tables were occupied throughout the weekend, which illustrates the high level of fun and creativity.
Oliver Fudickar, managing director of the trade fair, emphasizes the unifying effect of playing together. “Games not only promote creativity, but also connect generations,” he emphasized. It becomes clear here that the trade fair is not just about sales figures, but also about the joy and interpersonal contacts that come from playing.
Variety of offers
The fair offered a wide range of new craft ideas, as well as the opportunity to try out different games. The competitions, such as puzzles, were particularly well received and brought the community together. Anyone who wanted to let off steam creatively found the right platform here.
But the “game idea” is not just a local event. It fits into the larger context of the trade fair industry, which showed impressive dynamics in Germany in 2024. According to Auma, there were a total of 322 trade fairs last year, with 176 national and international trade fairs taking place and 138 regional events. This diversity shows how the trade fair industry is constantly developing and bringing new topics to the fore.
International comparison
A particularly interesting player in the world of trade fairs is the Messe Frankfurt Group, which has over 800 years of history and organizes the largest number of trade fairs worldwide. In 2024, around 4.6 million visitors and over 98,000 exhibiting companies are expected. These figures underline the strength and growth of the trade fair industry in Germany, which is becoming increasingly popular.
For 2024, there was an increase in the number of exhibiting companies by 9.2 percent and the number of visitors rose by 3.2 percent to over 11.7 million. All in all, it shows that the trade fair industry is on a positive growth path not only in Rostock, but nationwide.
The combination of traditional gaming fun and such a dynamic trade fair landscape ensures that events like the “Spielidee” are important not only for the region, but for the entire industry. Here the good knack for designing experiences that appeal to all generations is demonstrated again and again.
