Holidays on the Baltic Sea: record occupancy and new attractions await!
The holiday season is in full swing in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the coastal towns are already busy. How n-tv reported, the holiday weekend begins on July 1st in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, which will lead to a sharp increase in the number of holidaymakers arriving from these federal states. The accommodations on the Baltic Sea and in the lake district are packed and suggest a pleasant summer season.
Occupancy for July is estimated at an impressive 87 percent on the coast and 73 percent inland. The tourist hotspots such as Rügen and Usedom in particular are driving these numbers up. Saxony has the most guests from the three federal states. The busiest times are expected during the entire holiday season, especially between August 1st and 10th.
Great experiences and new attractions
Holidaymakers can also look forward to new attractions. Anyone who sets out on the journey can visit the longest pier on the Baltic Sea in Prerow or explore the newly renovated maritime museum in Stralsund. With its 2,000 kilometers of Baltic Sea coast and over 2,000 lakes, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania also offers a wealth of opportunities to relax and be active by the water. Whether it's cycling, horse riding or water sports - there's something for everyone to make their hearts beat faster.
With an average of 1,648 hours of sunshine, the region is also the sunniest federal state in Germany, which makes for a relaxing break. In addition, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has been one of the most popular domestic German travel destinations since 2014 and records annual gross sales of over 5.1 billion euros from tourism. Around 173,000 people live directly or indirectly from this important industry, which is strongly supported by continuous investments.
Challenges in the catering industry
Despite the positive occupancy figures, restaurateurs report a decline in sales of 18 percent compared to 2019. Rising costs are affecting many businesses and are causing concern. The announced reduction in VAT to seven percent for food in the catering industry is therefore seen as an important sign to relieve the burden on the industry and ensure quality.
Transport connections during the start of the season will also be closely monitored. The ADAC expects busy traffic at the weekend, but no traffic jams. Only traffic on motorways could become a little more dense on Friday afternoon due to commuters and holidaymakers. Construction sites along the A20 could also impede the flow, but clever timing should avoid major traffic problems.
For all those who long for peace and nature, there are still free spaces in Mecklenburg Switzerland. Anyone who would like to escape the hustle and bustle of tourist hotspots can relax here and enjoy the diversity of nature to the fullest.
