1.4 million euros for women: advancement to leadership positions secured!

Something is happening for women in business in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania! The Justice, Equal Opportunities and Consumer Protection Minister Jacqueline Bernhardt, a representative of the Left, presented funding notices at the Warnemünde Technology Park on Thursday. Several initiatives are supported with a total amount of up to 1.4 million euros, financed by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+). The focus is primarily on mentoring programs that are intended to support women on their way to leadership positions.  Nordkurier reports.

The “Advancement in Companies” program, which started for the ninth time on July 1, 2023, is intended to sustainably increase the proportion of women in management positions. The minister was convinced that women make a decisive contribution to diversity and innovative strength in companies. After all, fewer than one in three top positions in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have been held by women. A clear call to action that cannot be avoided!

Mentoring that works

The funding is not only a financial gain, but also means practical support. A study shows that career opportunities increase significantly through mentoring initiatives. Mentees were not only able to expand their leadership skills, but also consolidate their professional positions and often advance. Such programs not only provide knowledge about structures and processes, but also help build a valuable professional network.

A look at the distribution of funding paints a clearer picture: the Bildungswerk der Wirtschaft (BdW) receives up to 230,000 euros, while the mentoring program service center even receives up to 545,000 euros. The Society for Innovative Education and Employment (GiBB) will receive 218,000 euros for West Mecklenburg and the Regional Economic Initiative - East M-V (RWI) will start with 217,000 euros for the Mecklenburg Lake District and Western Pomerania-Greifswald. The funded projects cover the period from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2028 and aim to significantly improve the professional opportunities of women. Because equality concerns us all!

Women through the ages

The topic of women in leadership positions is not new, but what does the role of women actually look like historically? According to the Wikipedia The social role of women has changed significantly over the centuries. From the responsibility of raising children in prehistoric times to the first closed doors in politics, women have historically often been disadvantaged. But with universal suffrage in the 20th century, a new horizon opened up. More and more women are now actively fighting for their place at the top.

Today, in many societies women have the same rights as men, but there is still a long way to go to achieve full balance. The proportion of women in national parliaments globally was only 24.3% in 2019. The current funding is therefore a positive step in the right direction.

Whether in sport, in companies or in social life - the voice of women is becoming louder and will become even stronger with the right initiatives and programs. For example, women are on the rise in tennis, and their ranking performances are often impressive - a sign that women have a lot to offer! Further information about the current tennis players can be found at WTA tennis rankings.

The promotion of women in leadership positions remains a central issue for democracy and society - and every step counts to advance equality!
