Drunk driver flees after accident and injures motorcyclist!

In an explosive incident on the B109 near Moeckow-Berg, a 25-year-old driver caused a stir when he drove through a red light with almost 1.8 per mille on June 26, 2025 and was involved in an accident. There was a collision with a 34-year-old motorcyclist who was driving from the left and was traveling on the B111 towards Wolgast. The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital for further treatment. The incident occurred at 9:25 a.m. and quickly attracted the attention of police, who were able to intervene due to an alert witness.

After the collision, the young man abandoned his vehicle with a flat tire and fled the scene. But thanks to the quick reaction of a witness who was chasing the driver, the police were able to stop him a short time later. He not only observed the situation on site, but also reported the location of the fleeing driver to the emergency services.

The consequences for the person who caused the accident

The breath alcohol test carried out showed an alarming level of almost 1.8 per mille. This incident has not only criminal but also civil consequences. According to German law, driving under the influence of alcohol is a criminal offense that is punished depending on the severity of the accident and the resulting consequences. The possible punishment ranges from fines to driving license revocation to prison sentences, especially if other people were injured, as was the motorcyclist in this case. The total extent of the damage is estimated at around 33,000 euros, and the driver has to answer not only for negligent bodily harm, but also for endangering road traffic and leaving the scene of the accident without permission.

In Germany there is a clear alcohol limit for driving a vehicle: drivers with a blood alcohol level of just 0.3 can be considered relatively unfit to drive. From 1.1 per mille you are legally considered absolutely unfit to drive, which is clearly the case in this case. In addition to possible fines and points in Flensburg, drivers also risk losing their driving license. With a level of 1.6 per mille, a medical-psychological examination (MPU) is even required in order to obtain a driving license again.

Civil law claims and compensation

The civil law aspects should also not be neglected. Injured parties have the opportunity to assert claims for damages against the person who caused the accident or their liability insurance. This includes not only the cost of repairing the damaged vehicle, but also compensation for the injuries sustained. The burden of proof for the claims usually lies with the injured party, but this can be reversed in cases of gross negligence, which is certainly true in this case given the high alcohol content in the driver's blood.

In summary, the incident on the B109 is not only tragic for the injured motorcyclist, but will also have serious consequences for the driver's license and financial well-being of the person responsible. Further proof of how dangerous it is to drive drunk. In Germany, every novice and experienced driver should be aware that driving under the influence of alcohol endangers not only their own life, but also the lives of other road users.
