The doctor, who comes from Eldena, leaves a deep void in the community, where he worked as a passionate veterinarian, hunter and beekeeper throughout his life. Dr. Seils was known not only for his veterinary skills, but also for his commitment to preserving the Low German language, which secured him the hearts of many people in the region. Dr. Seils grew up in Grimmen and studied veterinary medicine at the renowned Humboldt University in Berlin. He started his career in the animal health department in Greifswald before taking over a state veterinary practice in Neu Boltenhagen, where he worked for twelve years. In 1971 he moved to Eldena with his family, which included four children. He previously worked as a district veterinarian from 1979 to 1987 and looked after large livestock populations in the agricultural production cooperatives (LPG). His extensive experience included combating a wide variety of animal diseases, including tuberculosis and foot-and-mouth disease.

His wife Gisela actively supported him in his work with animals. Dr. Seils was a man with a tireless will who, for example, served as district hunter from 2002 to 2012. He proudly shot an impressive 16-ender red deer, which earned him a lot of recognition.
Interested in politics, he joined the SPD in 1990 and was a member of the Greifswald citizenship for ten years. He was particularly valued for his specific advice on combating the wild boar plague in Greifswald, which was also in demand after his retirement. Veterinary services are also regulated, and changes to the fee schedule come into effect regularly, as shown by the 12 percent adjustment in 2017. The small animal emergency service is also important these days, and will be available under a single number from March 1st, 2024 veterinarians Quan and Bracke.
Dr. Gustav Seils will be buried in Wieck on July 21st, and the community will remember him as an outstanding person whose life's work has an impact far beyond the boundaries of his practice.
